Squat form...

inspired by deadlift form thread (i guess)

im having trouble squatting much more than my body weight (around 275 or so is where i run into problems, im about 240 :/)

the issue seems to be my back, as opposed to my legs...i tend to fall forward. i think i have a pretty long torso relative to my legs, so this might be a factor....but even without a bar, I cant seem to do the lift without leaning forward a good deal, then when im up in that range i can do a few, then i either sense that im gonna lose it and quit, or basically fall forward and drop the bar off on the rack....

is there anything i should be thinking about? my friend told me always to bring hips first, like youre pelvic thrusting out of the squat...but i still cant seem to pull it off

There are a lot of videos out there showing you proper form, but the simplest way I can describe how to do a squat is to pretend like you're sitting down on the toilet and then standing straight back up.

There are actually a few different ways you can do them, too. One is to squat down as low as you possible can (ass to grass) where your butt almost touches the ground and your thighs are past parallel to the ground. Another is to do it the "toilet way", where you stop with your thighs parallel to the ground. And my favorite way is to come down and stick my ass out while bending over almost touching my knees to my chest -- it works my back and butt a lot more than a normal squat.

i do front squat. you can't really do any bending when you front squat.
