mr_luc 05-24-2001, 02:24 PM I hate Tribes 2.
The physics are soft-edged and irritating. The disc launcher explosion is more irritating than anything -- it just obscures the hit area. The rocket launchers suck ASS. The only way it will run on my computer is if it is pushing LESS polygons than a game of Tribes, with practically nonexistant textures.
On the plus side, the water is very cool . . . . nope. It doesn't add up.
Damn it all, Tribes is way more fun.
ICFire 05-24-2001, 02:32 PM I think this was Natural's biggest problem with the game myself.
Natural said: "-renegades players are far too satisfied."
You bet baby, I'm a former Ren player and I absolutely love this game. But I don't care what anyone I play with/against used to play.
Word to the wise...we're all bases players now.
I even ran into old, festering Renegade's hostilities in a server I was kicked out of the other day...for no reason and no warning. When someone asked the person why they had kicked me they were told.."It doesn't matter, he was a Renegades player anyway."
Vulcan 05-24-2001, 02:51 PM well i think we should all go play T1 tonight on Cheaters Wayside and have one badass pickup...
but all you fucktards who defend their damn tribes in slow motion, go play a T2 pickup
and if yall care... i stand by all the T1 heros
because someday i hope to be a T1 hero and then when i get that title ill go on to T2
so ill see you all in T2 in several years

Actually I was talking about the earlier post wher eyou thought this was "squashed"
And any 'proof' that I provide you would just ignore anyway. As has been said numerous times, if you were ever in the top 20, you would understand.
That whole being on a top 20 team is just a cop out excuse sorry. The whole thing about what the game was meant to be and what it became is valid. You really think they implimented all the stuff that came with Tribes for no good reason? Or that they made maps with the intention of them never being played?
-])ark- 05-24-2001, 04:33 PM omg who the hell cares if Natural plays or not? He's a dink anyway.

Cop out?? I've heard cop out excuses ever since I started playing in ladder competition. Why on earth would those top players need an excuse to explain how there WAS teamwork? And obviously you know what Tribes was meant to be, right? I'm sorry you didn't like how it evolved, because I did.
I care if he plays, he's fun to watch, and I've learned some valuable skills from watching his demo's.
So, make that one, and... two (he's the other one).
interface 05-24-2001, 04:47 PM The word "overrated" would be useful in this thread..

I never said there wasn't team work I'm talking about the way Tribes was meant to be played. I liked tribes played it as often as I could, I was good enough to hold my own, I just wanted more depth of gameplay (and a few east coast D&D servers :hrm: ). I'm glad you liked tribes I did too, but the point is the way we played it was not what was meant to be, and saying the way the top 20 CTF teams played tribes was what was intended all along is intellectually dishonest
|Oi|JesseJames 05-24-2001, 04:53 PM Pumpkin...T1 doesnt have that excitement?
You obviously never played T1.
T2 is slow, and sluggish compared to T1.
I keep playing T2 because its new, but it certainly doesnt have the speed and excitement of T1.
How long did it take for him to cap? Or go back for another run?
I mean in T1 it was boom boom boom action. Thats fun.
T2 its like boom. Ok wait, reorganize, chat, smoke a stoagie, ok lets go, travel, travel, travel, ok were here. Doh died. Ok lets do it over again.
I dont see the fun in it.
2 minutes of walking for 15 seconds of actual play. yay.

I never said intended. I said evolved. There is most definitely a difference. I'm quite certain that the original Dev team( w00t!!) couldn't foresee what we would all do with the game collectively. And you don't know how it was meant to be played any better than I do. Let's ask Nels. ;)
Funky 05-24-2001, 05:28 PM Well said everyone. GG's and GF's. What do you say we call it a day and head on home?

Well we can assume quite bit by what came with the game for instance vehicles, Sensor jammer packs and deployables, various sensors, targetting lasers, etc when was the last time you saw someone painting a target for a mortar in tribes? We can also assume quite a bit from the tribes training missions about where they were trying to steer gameplay, play through them tonight and read the prompts they give you its fairly clear the intended a more tactical game.

Which is exactly why they left skiing in. And after a few months, painting targets wasn't needed. Instead it became useful for something else: spotting and pointing out possible cappers.
Let's not assume. It was plenty tactical for me.
nullper 05-24-2001, 05:49 PM We'll I'd debate the the need for the laser designator. It's loss was due more to the fact that yes it wasn't needed cause we never played too many new maps where we would need the aid. And from what I've read skiing was left in as a defence against snipers, apperantly they noted in beta that a sniper could kill you way to easily if you landed essentially standing still.
I'll agree to disagree on this whole issue (even though I'm right ;) )

Jessie, please don't put words into my mouth. Of course T1 was exciting. Grabbing the flag and skiing away was awesome THEN. Now it seems boring to me compared to T2. There are no missles that lock onto you that need to be flared, scouts don't usually chase you (and when they do, they aren't as cool as the new and improved shrikes), there aren't any motorcycles after me, etc...
These extra gaming elements that are new and exciting to me were NOT there in T1 and I'm just saying they're awesome.
PK, I guess I'd just rather it was PEOPLE chasing me, rather than gadgets. Just my opinion, I'm sticking with it. :)
Transfix 05-24-2001, 07:41 PM If a game isn't fun people aren't going to play it. Those people (like myself) who say it isn't fun share the same ideas.
It's slow.
Maps are too large.
etc..
Post release games shouldn't have to endure patch after patch, and of all things a reverse patch, and a change in the scoring system.
Elimination of Tie games. What's with that? For me, OT in T1 was great. Everything was on the line for 1 cap, and they (the DEV Team) takes that away from us. I don't get it.
I too have played probably a total of 8 hours of T2, but why is that? Well. I can't play for longer than 30 min at a time. ERRORS! ERRORS! ERRORS! CRASHING!! p3 800, 256 RAM, 2000 Pro, 32MB TNT should run a lot better than 20 fps, and shouldn't crash all the time.
It's not fun and it's booring. Till something happens my copy will collect dust, and I'll work longer hours at the office.

Whoa there skippy. You need to get your T1 history straight before you tell a vet he hasnt played T1 before.
Minipete 06-28-2001, 01:26 PM ok, the reason why i didn't play tribes 2 is because, i hate renegades. tribes 2 is more like renegades than base.
and what the fuck is wrong with skiing?
we are cheating cuz we can hit space bar real fast?
if there was no skiing in tribes, it would have died in the first few months.
tribes 2 is also a cpu hog.
they took too my time on what the stuff looks like, than the actual game aspect. if i was to go look at scenery i would go play black and white. the thing that pissed me off was the heavy. wtf, it is a better game when there is a challenge, i like to stop heavies coming at me at a good speed. so if tribes is suppose to be about about teamplay, than wtf is going on about heavies going slower than a light, where gravity doesn't matter. I'm in a fucking 2-ton metal suit and I'm sliding down the hill and I'm going slowly? Give me a break. I mean, I know the newbies need cannon fodder and slow-moving targets to actually make them PLAY (God forbid they practise until they get GOOD like the rest of us) but this is ridiculous; what am I supposed to do for offense, wear light armor and cross the bridge like a newbie? "Hee hee hee I'm gonna cap! I'm a one-man capping team! I'm the MAN!" *bzing* ... So instead of a HO on my Tribe, what am I supposed to call it? CF? Cannon fodder? "I'm not a sniper, I'm a moving target." That takes the manliness out of the whole game, and I mean, that's what shooting people is all ABOUT. tribes 2 will be thrown it the trash at my house, i don't know about you newbies who like it, but i think that they should kick out the nnewbies out of dynamix, stop the problem at the source of the problem, newbies will make a newbie griendly game. wtf is with the weapons? skock lance, cloaking packs, if i want to go play renegades i will, this is the most pittful game i have ever seen. flash bangs? wtf, is this counter strike aswell? last time i check it wasn't last man standing, and i wasn't planting a bomb at the enemy base.
in a sense you do need stealth, to get into the enemy base, to rape, but this is where skill comes in to play, it takes skill away, and lets stupid weapons which have too much power make the game worse and worse. i have a feeling that the creators of tribes 2 where more concerned with making it easy for newbies to play, so as to get a bigger fan base, so that more people will pay for their game, rather than taking care of the fans they already have by making sure the game has what made tribes 1 cool; they failed to make tribes 2 a challenge. tribes 1 you have to practice, to build up skill, tribes to you press the trigger and you ma someone. it takes the skill from the good players, and makes them look mediocre. i myself have thrown tribes two in the corner along with the other crap like opposing forces and other unworthy games.
"i hate tribes 2"
