Why I'm not playing T2

Wow I have never put anyone on ignore before but I had to add Polaris and Ceiling_Fan just to be able to read this thread, so congrats guys for actually making my ignore list, even if it's only temporary. I expect that type of crap from smurfs or some of the well known trouble makers but its pretty sad when more respected people like you guys resort to spamming shit in a thread to kill off any discussions going on. If you don't like reading people dissing your "beloved" T2 then ignore obvious threads such as this(hint the name gives it away :D

I know what you're saying. I have almost always learned from, enjoyed, or at least been able to tolerate almost all of Polaris and CF's posts. I was actually sad to hit ignore on them, even if it is only a temporary measure till the spamming dies down.

Reading this tells me that I am dealing with the mentality of a 2 year old calling people names, so I was tempted to bypass this post alltogether. But I won't, because I'm bored.


This game is a game about war, fighting. Fighting is game of reacting, thinking, being stronger, faster, tougher then the other guy.


In fact MANY wars are won with tactics and a slower pace. Even one-on-one fighting there are MANY disciplines that utilize a slower pace to gain advantage. Saying speed and power wins fights is being naive.


Reaction. Twitch. The same thing. If you cant hang with that, most likely why you like T2.


I held my own in T1. Was I good at duels? Not really. but I could chase down cappers and fill other roles with the upper eschelon players. I do have the ability to play twitch games fairly well, but I prefer to use more than reflex. I prefer to use my brain.


Fact: I have made 45 second caps on LONG maps in T2.
Fact: They were still boring, and maybe one person caught up with me.


But the game "is so defense oriented it's sickening", remember? (see your statement below)


Fact: In T1 at full speed capping a Elf was a minor annoyance if I had speed.
Fact: In T2 your already draining yourself to get speed, an ELF absolutely kills.


So because you can't think of a way to counter a D using ELFs the game sucks. I understand now.


T2 is so defense oriented its sickening. Those maps where the flag is down in a hole. Place 2 or 3 heavies with shields in there and nigh to impossible to route them. And even if you do the team spawns RIGHT there and it takes you to much time to get back.


Ok, med w/shield and concussion grenades escorting the capper can make those heavies useless. Remember concussion will knock the pack and weapon off the enemy. Or fly a heavy in and toss morts down the hole.


Ive playd some enjoyable T2 games and scrimmed several times with some good teams. But I still feel forced to enjoy it.


That is your opinion and you are entitled to it. People like different things. Personally, I don't feel I have to force myself to play it because I like all different types of games.


I dont cringe at loading up T1, I click that icon and load it up, join a server and play.


Neither do I... I still like T1... But it IS horribly unbalanced and 99% of all possible strats are done... The only thing left is finding new routes.


Imbalances. I guess it pisses me off that some ass whips out a mine mid-air and MA's me to hell and back.

But then again ive done that before also.


That's only one of the many imbalances in T1. No reason to go into that.


Speed and skill are intertwined. Ive seen, and done things like DJ'd over hill going 300mph chaining teh capper the whole time to have him die a buddy pick up and me fly by and MA to return it.


Not necessarily. Which takes more skill... chasing a capper at 300 mph or fleeing a defense at 50mph? Both can be extremely difficult.


T2 you just DONT have that happen. Hell if I get good ski on T2, which is ALOT slower then T1 (If you think its close to T1, your dreaming), no one is going to catch me.


Unless they have ELFs because remember, those things are broken.


And on the strats, new things are done all the time in T1.


Name ONE... (and routes don't count)

For the last 6 months everyone does the same thing. HO spam the base and find a good cap route.


Just because you dont have the reflexes to adapt, doesnt mean people arent trying it.


Yes Sir Mr. Presumptuous. I may be older, but my reflexes are good enough to hold my own. They were for 2 years in T1 and they do just fine in T2.

I hear yea Lock355. There was Comp. And tons of it. The era IE was dominating everyone, was in all aspects, the "early" stages of Tribes 1 Comp play. It was the first generation of OWNAGE and teamwork play. Following IE's exit, the ladders and comp play, increased 10 fold. There was good teams on the rise left and right. My team scrimmed 5150 many times on there rise to #1. It was always good comp. I feel IE left the ladder, just when it was getting good. And after a couple months had past, and IE players had moved on, to EQ, RL, or other teams, and that was that.

But I don't believe IE's exit from Tribes 1 was because lack of comp. It may play a "small" role but not the majority. But I was ever IE so I cant say for sure. I'm just assuming.

That's why I'm asking Natural, and other IE players, why the SURGE to bring back Tribes1, a game you left so long ago, because as you say "lack of comp". Well the comp now isn't even CLOSE to what it was when IE first left. Its pathetic now, if you were to compare the two. And yes I understand, that's just your side:) I just don't understand the theory behind COMING BACK. Is it because tribes2 isn't what you want? Has tribes2 made you realize how GOOD tribes1 was, and still is? Is IE coming back to tribes1 COMP play? I'm not flaming, I'm just trying to understand wtf is going on with this " lets get Tribes1 comp back" after you left it before it really took off. The Gala was a CLEAR sign, that there was still Comp in Tribes1. I don't know, there is so many theories and reasons for leaving the game, that can vary between players. I'm just trying to understand IE's reasoning.

It has crossed my mind to comeback and play Tribes1. But why? Refreshed the servers lately? Seen the ladders? 20-40 teams-how many are really active and good??? I'm trying HARD to see how we could bring back Tribes1 to what it was. And the only way I can see that happening is if, IE comes back. 5150 comes back. POE comes back. Sticks comeback. KoV is there. HT is there etc.. Without those MAIN teams, I don't see Tribes1 coming back to comp play-Or @ least to a level that it was a year ago. And that's a large part of why we played tribes1. The comp play. The awesome, nail bitter games, that comes down to OT , 1 play 1 cap. The game that launched shoutcasting. For Tribes1 to comeback and be competitive. IE would have to comeback and set a statement. If not, I believe it will remain, for the most part-DEAD.

A few reasons... Once T2 went retail a lot of us were still heavily envolved in EQ. We played it a bunch pre/post release and obviouslly didn't feel like playing competitively. I figured I'd let the game go for awhile and hope for some changes, forgetting about the game. At the same time, the cheats for T1 became such a heated debate, while lots of good T1 servers switched over to T2: I gave up.

At E3, a lot of us realized how much more fun we had (me, particularlly, as I watched sLaM's demos at the Teamplay booth)... sLaM, myself, and other IE spent a LONG night discussing the game and I came to my conclusions and decided to do something. We also came up with some fun ideas for a Team Rabbit-style mod... and some other things.

I was frustrated when I returned Sunday night after E3 and made my post (of course I'm asked the question often). That's about it.

The # of views this thread has gotten is scary though... Reviving T1 gameplay was not the purpose of my thread but after reading and replying to this thread I now think that it's quite possible. Who knows... Maybe it will start with the Porn Shop going back up =)
