PC 05-22-2001, 12:09 AM banana, i have always wanted to ask you how you picked your name? what made you pick banana man? :D vivrant 05-22-2001, 12:10 AM pc serious son, i could go for some chili relleno right now Natural 05-22-2001, 12:15 AM PC, you're right... maybe I would see things differently if I got myself to accept the way the game plays. Watching T1 demos just makes it remember the sheer enjoyment of the original, and I can't bring myself to it... vivrant 05-22-2001, 12:16 AM nat are you in the pu on shitheads right now or is some queer jackin your name? vivrant 05-22-2001, 12:31 AM fine dont answer me go eat a dick punk PC 05-22-2001, 12:34 AM Nat believe me, i know just how you feel. I played t1 for an avg of about 2 hours tell the day that t2 came out. Even though i was getting tired of it though(mainly because of the lack of compitition) i would still play 5-6 hours on the weekends, i was that in love with t1. I agree with you that T1 is the best game ever. But i ask you this question, if you think that it was the best game ever, wtf did you switch to EQ? That goes for the rest of you IE guys. you come in here saying how t2 sucks so much, and that t1 was the best game ever. well then i ask you all why did most of you leave? i would really like to know.. becuase in my opinion i think that if you stayed longer, t1 would have stayed longer.. same with 5150 and s3. they left and so did the compitition in t1. bleh Cavalier 05-22-2001, 12:36 AM You Might Consider by above Opinion to be wrong, but even it was right, its not like any of you would have the guts to admit it. And by the way, you people that say people sucked at T1, but continued, where as people sucked at T2, and stopped, so therefore T2 must just suck, here is the difference: Michael Jordan Sucked at Basketball in High School, but he continued to play to get better. He wins 3 NBA Rings. Michael Jordan "Retires" From Basketball to play a new game, Baseball. He Sucks at baseball. He realized that baseball isn't for him, and goes "back" to Basketball. Its the same thing, except unlike The Elite T1 Vets, when Michael Gave up on Baseball to return to the game he loved and was better at, he didn't go out trashing Baseball. And I can guarantee that the people trashing T2 aren't good at it, thats why they are quitting. I know because everyone has that ego, its just the way it is once you become good at something, human nature. Hell, I think Counterstrike is a crappy ass game, I tell that to everyone. The truth is I tried it for 2 days, got my ass kicked, and hell I can't hang, so I decided f*ck it. The difference with T2 was that everyone was at the same level besides the Meta crew, so I decided to give the game a longer stay on my Hard Drive. And hell, after playing the game for now almost 2 Months, you realize its better. I have yet to see anyone that regularly plays the game now come out after about 6 weeks and say they hate it because the actual game sucks. All the posts I've seen are from people I never see on the servers. And all the people that were great at Tribes 1 aren't great at Tribes 2 as someone mentioned before (forgot who). There are tons of new people on the scene which are really good, and then there are a bunch of great T1 players that hang in Tribes 2. But in the end its the same deal, they suck at the game, got frustrated, decided to stop. Its probably because either some "ren newbie" or some other unknown guy MA'ed the "Elite T1 Vet's" ass, and Veteran got frustrated, realized he sucked, but since his ego is too large, decides to blame it on the game. And to Giga: ok the point of mentioning I played renegades was to what, somehow discredit me or get people to spew out how im just a ren newbie? Nice try. nigafool 05-22-2001, 12:44 AM No, mentioning that was to show exactly how much you know the Base community, which is where *most* of this criticism is coming from. Don't get me wrong, I played renegades near the end, but I also played Base for 3 years. You say these T1 vets "can't hang," but I think in saying that, you really don't have a clue. Every single T1 vet that I have seen or played T2 with, has done fine. Can you name a vet that you saw on a pub suck? You assume that they don't want to play it because they can't handle it. Maybe they just don't like it. Dresden 05-22-2001, 12:45 AM t2 is dynamix's original vision of t1 least they gave us our skiing edit: version to vision Wulfen 05-22-2001, 12:55 AM Originally posted by Shade Tribes 2 is what Tribes 1 was supposed to be. A slower-than-Quake game that required teamwork. T1 turned into a game just like Quake, where one player could make all the difference. Tribes 2 is the first good attempt at a truely team based game. Don't get me wrong, T1 was fun, but I welcome the teamwork required in T2 with open arms. I can learn to deal with the missile launchers and other new elements of the game. Wrong. T2 is what Dave wanted T1 to be. Cavalier 05-22-2001, 12:56 AM I didn't play base competitively, doesn't mean I don't know how Natural like Wrote the Book on Offense in T1. And what I'm saying is that I have yet to see anyone that SERIOUSLY plays T2 come out and say it sucks, and so doesnt play. When I say serious: Vir is an active Player, Skillz is an active player, Luck is an active player, Doc Holliday is an active player....etc... These are guys i'll see on Cheaters or 5150 Servers many times in a week. I have yet to see anyone from the group of people which hate the game(the Topic Starter for example) once in Tribes 2. And like I said last time, the problem is that people assumed that they'd start up the game the first time and just continue to be great like they were in Tribes 1. They found out they weren't, and that members of some newbie clan are better. So instead of just saying: "hey I suck, lemme play more to get better," its "hey, I can't mine disk and chain, and this newbie keeps satcheling me every time I go for a flag grab. Damn, T2 must suck if i'm not good at it." PC 05-22-2001, 01:00 AM Cavalier, very good point. Almost EVERY pub I've been on in T2, I've owned. Completely. And I was just an AVERAGE T1 player. Your 'facts' have no basis. Sucking at the game has nothing to do with it. Knock it off with the complex already. You think this is role reversal? Bzzzzt. nigafool 05-22-2001, 01:04 AM Originally posted by Cavalier I didn't play base competitively, doesn't mean I don't know how Natural like Wrote the Book on LD in T1. And what I'm saying is that I have yet to see anyone that SERIOUSLY plays T2 come out and say it sucks, and so doesnt play. Um. So you know the base community, but you think Natural was LD? Come again? When I say serious: Vir is an active Player, Skillz is an active player, Luck is an active player, Doc Holliday is an active player....etc... These are guys i'll see on Cheaters or 5150 Servers many times in a week. I have yet to see anyone from the group of people which hate the game(the Topic Starter for example) once in Tribes 2. Der, check up on Doc Holliday's past topics on TribalWar sir. He's said many times he doesn't like the game. And like I said last time, the problem is that people assumed that they'd start up the game the first time and just continue to be great like they were in Tribes 1. Damn, T2 must suck if i'm not good at it." No. See, it isn't that way at all. Read what I wrote. Again. I explained this dumbass point of yours. Ok. So you think Natural played LD, you listed someone who has said he doesn't like the game many times as someone who "likes it," and you still maintain the same dumbass point. Now what? Wulfen 05-22-2001, 01:07 AM Forgive him. It's PJ syndrome. nigafool 05-22-2001, 01:08 AM But even PanamaJack knew Nat was a capper :hrm: Wulfen 05-22-2001, 01:09 AM True dat. But at least it renders any of his arguments moot. Rilke 05-22-2001, 01:09 AM :bandit: <-- bandeto Rilke 05-22-2001, 01:14 AM I bent my w00kie. {CG}Pendragon 05-22-2001, 01:22 AM These sports analogies are kind of missing the mark. T1 is not basket ball and T2 baseball, etc. The single greatest factor of T1 was this: Skill Headroom In T1, you could practice your skiing, and your movement and hone your skills to a razors edge. There were super skilled fast cappers, wicked evil fast HO and elite Light Defense. All of these positions required a very high degree of awareness and a very high level of mobility - expressed in a different way. In T1, the speeds you could move at were virtually unlimited - and with disc jumping, people could trade health for speed - there was an skill economy that favored experience and practice to a high degree. No matter how good I thought I was, I would continue to practice and eventually, I was able to get better, faster, more accurate, more aware. This is where T2 fell flat on its face, and this is the very core of what offends every one of us "naysayers": The "wind resistance" / velocity cap puts a very practical limit on the speed of each armor class. This does not seem like a big deal but imagine: Imagine if everyone in football and basketball moved at EXACTLY THE SAME SPEED perhaps it would be more precise if every player in the sport had exactly the same top speed. Why work out? why do sprints? why watch your weight - why improve? Once someone is a few steps ahead of you, unless they stumble, you are not going to catch them. What you ski haters fail to see (or maybe you see it and do not value it or appreciate its intrinsic uniqueness to all FPS games) is that Tribes 1 simulated virtual athleticism. Skiing was something that you could exercise and practice and get better at. Disc jumps allowed people to trade health for instant speed - these kinds of tactical skills and decisions elevated the skill required to play the game. Tribes 2 does not have any such elements that I have yet been able to identify. As someone mentioned and I have often observed, some people have this vision of team work as "everyone going in at once" - like combat is some kind of virtual pep rally where we all go to the enemy base together and then, as a team, we shoot at the other team and whatever team is still standing - well, gosh by golly, they had the better team work and they have earned the right to saunter off into the sunset with the flag... That concept of teamwork is boring and lame and I hate it and it offends everything in me that knows what fun is. T1 had team work, but it was about coordination and precision. You hadt o clear the flag defenses with HO, you had to put pressure on different resources, you had to repair and defend - and you had to know when to call in cappers - the defense had to know when to stay at the base and when to chase or move to assist. The game was absolutely team oriented, but everyone had a role and they were required to perform it at a very hight level as individuals or the team would suffer as a whole. | ||
