I'v never liked 3dfx products. They've always run like shit, and been buggy as hell when doing anything else but playing games. I mean tribes 1 ran coo on a voodoo3, but ran better on a TNT, or TNT2. I put a voodoo3 in my g/f's computer and it runs games alright (half-ass quality but oh well) but man its horrible when your doing desktop appz such as Photoshop or anything like that. 3dfx was just a company who happened to strike at the right time earlier in the past. I give all innovation to nVidia.

K, all that is great info to know (thx for lifestory dumbass), but most of us got Voodoo's for Tribes 1 and were very happy with them. Go to a Q3 board and preach on, brother man, but most people here either have a video card they are happy with, or are upgrading, ALL WITHOUR YOUR HELP OR INPUT.

I happened to open up gamespy's stats (http://www.gamespy.com/stats/) after thinking about this thread for awhile, and noticed that both Q3 and UT has more players than T2 (perhaps those that Dynamix wanted to reach have begun to reject T2) and that T1 is seeing a return of players, only half the amount of players of T2 (which is more than it was when T2 was released and several weeks ago) 4066 players for T2 compared to 2056 players for T1. Since T2 can have over double the amount of players on a server compared to T1's common player cap, I find this as quite a disappointment :o. Interpret these statistics however you like, but less than two weeks ago, T2 had more players than Q3 or UT easily. So perhaps people in all directions are getting tired of T2 and just aren't voicing their complaints?

I wrote up a huge reply basically saying "you're all saying the same shit over and over and over again, for a month-and-1/2", then I realized my post would be highly redundant.

Natural.

OMG say hi man.

Your demos got me skilled enough to be in several top 20 clans.

I remember watching your perfectly run routes and asking myself if I could ever do that. Once I did them once or twice, RIGHT..hehe I kept practicing.

Your like a found, a hero, a...I dunno an Icon of Tribes. When people mention the name Natural, its all scary and shit.

Anywho. Onto your points now that Ive kissed your ass enough.

This game is a RTS with FPS involvement basically. Ive seen people dominate T2 games before though. Just today a guy named Big Frank was just KILLING us on D. 56 pts. And all he did was light D the whole game.

BUT he wasnt really a hero...because we capped out on them
:(

And cappers, if they dont have help and are being chased, pretty much are dead. No matter how fast you go, theres always gonna be a sniper, or chainer or scout, or tank, or guided missile.

And on that Renegades players being happy, of course they are, this is Tribes 2:Renegades Unleashed!

Pubs suck, Ive only played in two pickups and one match, for a team that was horrible.

The turrets...I thought they were guided by IE hands ;)

When I first got the game I was MA'd by Mortar Turrets 7x before realizing how freaking accurate they were.

You cant chuck mortars like turrets, EVER.

The vehicles, the huge maps, all of this a huge, lame excuse to make people use teamwork.

Well in Tribes 1 if you didnt have teamwork, there wasnt much chance of winning.

Tribes 1 was fast, fun, and furious. Is that to much to ask to keep in the sequel? I mean really people, I dont care if the game has all that it has now, and still forces us to use teamwork. But do I have to travel for 2 minutes, for a 10 seconds fight? Or to get killed by 10 waiting defenders in 3 seconds? Or flying very fast through the air grabbing the flag and being MA'd by 5 blaster turrets?

The list goes on and on of how they made the game slow, repititous and boring.

Nat your IE buddy said it best earlier in this thread. T2 is full, I mean FULL of useless jobs for people. Jobs that are boring and could easily been done away with. Who WANTS to fill those seats? No one.

JesseJames

PS Natural, your still my hero, and what I would consider mentor of Tribes 1.

Blah, I will add a couple things.

Tribes captured the perfect balance between individual skill and teamwork. On defense and offense, it was imperative that players worked together in order to keep/get the flag. Generally, any player working on his own got nothing done. However, there were rare exceptions where special players were able to rise above the standard and raise the bar. It was only in these special cases that players could perform their positions without the complete support of their team. Thus, those that worked their asses off to get a leg up had an outlet for their abilities. I don’t feel T2 has this same balance.

Theoretically, t2 is a great game. ‘Teamwork on an Epic Scale’ is it? In practice, t2 much like real life, has positions that no one wants to play but get stuck with anyways. Even the traditional Tribal positions seem to lack something… other people have pinned it down better but for me it comes down to the little things. It just doesn’t feel right.

What can I say? This debate is going nowhere in all senses. It is here to stay and no one is gonna change their mind overnite. It will come down to acceptance or permanent divisions in the community.

In 2 months, there will be another thread like this, and it will read:

"Why I'm playing T2"

People will come crawling back, as the performance gets better. When the demo's start coming out. Strats are endless in T2. Tribes 1 had strats, but they were limited, because of what you had to work with. Tribes 1 strats are all figured out-How fun is that....over time.....Not to mention the super-scripts now. No servers. No competitive play. Because it will be NEVER what it was-not even close. Your beating a dead-horse.

Tribes 2 offers, more strats, better art, better teamwork. Just cause 1 player cant join the game, and cap 8 times in a row, and win the game, doesn't mean it lacks-FUN. It may take you 30 seconds longer, but jumping out of a shrike @ 450k IS FUCKING FUN. So is the ski home with shrikes, rockets, light D, tanks, bombers all chasing you. But maybe its not for you, and that's your choice.

T2 pubs for the most part SUCK-Tribes 1 pubs for the most part SUCK. Don't judge the game in PUBS. That's were you have gone DEAD WRONG NATURAL. Play a scrim, and cap on 16 people, you might like it. 50% of the Tribes 2 maps, and 2-3 don't even have BASES or GENS. EG- Firestorm, or Dust to Dust. Or a close map like Damnation, where you can almost cap base to base JUST LIKE T1-1 jump in the middle and you are home. Before you judge the game so harshly, why don't you play it the way it was meant to be played. SCRIMS or MATCH play.

I agree with Sluts post

I'm also a strong believer, the "majority" of people that don't like tribes 2, don't have the PC to run it the way it was meant to be ran.

I get 100+ FPS at 1024x768 with details on.

Its still slow and boring.

I still play it, because every once and awhile, after trying for 20 minutes you get one of those exciting moments. But they are so few and far between.

Why is T1 exciting still? Because its fast and furious.

Skillz... if it was "meant to be played in match play," why do the majority of the people that play it, play it on pub servers?

Maybe you think T1 pubs sucked, but I can always find an enjoyable one any day, even after the game has "died."

If you counted up all the gaming hours spent on T2, you'd see that the vast majority are on pubs, not matches, scrims, or even pickups. Why do they have to suck so bad?

cause noone uses the fucking in game voice and without that its impossible to get good communication. The kind of communication needed for T2 to work in pubs.

Actually nullper, I don't mind the T2 pubs I've played. Recently, I've been a part of some really fun ones.

I was just responding to what skillz said in his post.

-W- sKILLz: I'm getting 40+ fps out and 80+ fps inside. I've got a pretty good dsl connect too. I've got the pc to run T2 fine, but the gameplay and movement is still sludgy and not so fun. Maybe in a month or two when they get most of the problems worked out it'll be fun. atm it feels like work and I don't go and play T2 to take out my frustrations - I get frustrated playing it.

GIGA

Probly cause most people don't have the chance, or a CORE enough team to play in scrims and matches. People are basing there option for the most part on a public server. A server a kid now on a Sony Play Station can join..enough said.....(if not now-soon)

My team -W-olfpack scrims Sunday to Thursday-So I really careless about public servers, and the game play there. I don't log up a public server and have expectations that its going to be a GOOD GAME-or even teamwork used. I mainly use pubs to practice killing people and learning more about the game. PU games Messiah hosts for example are a step-up from pubs, but still not on the same level as scrims and matches.
The game was meant to be played in Tourney , with TEAMS vs TEAMS. Pubs are just to pass the time between scrims and matches.

There is DUEL MOD for Tribes 2 now in beta
Rabbit is DAM fun in T2-just like t1
Siege I hear is really fun (I've yet to try it honestly)
Arena is almost made (this is going to OWN)

The game is not going to get any worse-its only going to get better. Like it has since it was released.

I played T1 @ the highest level there was-And it OWNED. But T1 is old, and boring, after playing Tribes 2. I'm a strat MAN, I LOVE STRATS. I spent 3 hours on 1 maps strats the other night. I like that aspect of the game. Some don't, some like to be able to ski across the map, with no plan, and own. Tribes 1 was FUCKING AWESOME part of my life, and I will NEVER forget it-don't get me wrong.

I know skillz, but I'm just saying, thats where most people are playing it now.

I hope the day comes when I enjoy T2 pubs the way I enjoy playing T1, and I assume it can only get better (if dynamix doesn't fuck it up anymore).
