daydreamer 05-21-2001, 05:14 PM uh... yeah Project2501 05-21-2001, 05:15 PM Your an idiot Giga. Do you know anything? Id software has always had the leading edge on graphic engines. The only competition they have ever had was from the people at Epic games with there version of Quake entitled Unreal. But that still hardly comes close. The Quake 3 engine is still the most complex one on the market (key-phrase there: on the market). And will be until something better is released. The tribes 2 engine is very good i'm not saying it sucks, but there is still better and more complex. The has always been a few steps behind when it comes to graphics 'n such. Personally i think the best thing Sierra has ever released was Half-Life and the Homeworld series. Now those were bad ass games, and cutting edge. But it still doesn't matter because once PlanetSide comes out, the shit really hits the fan! LOL. I love my GF3. Vulcan 05-21-2001, 05:16 PM well i didnt read much of this thread but all i have to say is increase the skiing, make the world less mountainous and more hill like, work on the FPS Hardware issues, and someone email me a new computer... preferably with a fast processor big HD and a Geforce video card... Vulcan1@altavista.com thanks and when i get this "new" comp emailed to me... i swear to god i will never post on these forums again because i never do those are my $.02 im out nullper 05-21-2001, 05:17 PM Originally posted by GigaFool Editorial Note: When someone says "kick your ass all over the place" when referring to Tribes, they do not refer to "being able to kill you with a weapon," although that is part of it, and does apply. What they mostly mean is, they can play all the positions in the game better than you, have a better head for the game, and can keep up with all the changes you say are "needed," to get rid of "cowboy cappers," or other "teamwork-less" positions. Lambast Nat all you want, say he "can't hang with the new crowd," or say "he was good at Tribes 1 and sucks at Tribes 2 so thats why he doesn't want to play it." It isn't about not being able to play it, it is about enjoying it. People enjoyed Tribes 1, and that was the main reason they bought it and played it. Then this community started to grow, so it was almost "inevitable" that we would all move to T2. Unfortunately, a lot of people feel it isn't as good as Tribes 1, and not as enjoyable. Don't say Nat or any other Tribes vet "can't handle the changes," or "can't be a cowboy capper," cause I'm sure the tribes they played for (IE for example) would say the entire team had a hand in their cappers pulling off plenty of those caps. I'm sorry if it came of sounding like I was flaming nat cause I try to avoid flaming anyone unless they deserve it. But I was trying to work in a lot of power into a statement that gets easily lost on these forums. Here were the points I was trying to make 1) Being good at a video game does not instantly give you my respect. The people here I like are good people not just good at games. 2) Playing a game for 8 hours and basing opinions on what OTHERS tell you is a bad way to make a decision (as illustrated by Nat's List half of the things he mentions are not problems for anyone who plays T2 regularly) 3) Games fade, online games fade and leave memory's of good times with real people. Tribes will not last forever I give it another 6 months to a year before real competition is gone. 4) IMO since T2 is dramatically different then tribes, ego's are preventing a lot of people from playing. They have built up a rep in Tribes and rather than leave that for the vaugeries of a new game they would rather stick with were they know they are artifically respected (this goes back to my first point about respect). They give all sorts of reasons of course (and I expect this to be qutoed with the ever intelligent "no T2 just sucks" coming afterwards) but it all just strikes me as laziness and fear and over a video game. This is what I saw in thresh which Is why I made the comparison to Nat. So Nat if I insulted you I apologize because I really don't know you and you've done nothing to deserve it. However if you want to be "THe best capper in tribes" then ya gotta take the ones who will knock you down with title ;) Project2501 05-21-2001, 05:17 PM OT: Half-Life runs off of a midified version of the Quake 1 engine for those of you who didn't know. Thus further proving my point. [vdz]patton 05-21-2001, 05:18 PM The developer of any sequel has to worry about not only keeping the original player base, but attracting new people to the player base, particularly for an online-only multiplayer game. Being a newbie to tribes (but not online gaming) I have to say that tribes 2 can definitely hold my interest for some time to come. There are so many roles to learn to be a complete master at the game. Combine these with the variety of tactics for each role and you get a rich environment that many people will be attracted too. Is tribes 2 as fast and exciting as tribes 1? Not from what the veterans of tribes 1 tell us. but my limited experience in Tribes 2 says that things get a lot more exciting with larger numbers of players per server, which is why I look for servers with 20+ people per game. For me, pubs are where its at. You see the best and the worst in pubs. But in a couple of months people will have settled down and worked out the roles they like and don't like and the pubs will be a lot better to play in for those veterans of t1 who choose to remain in the t2 environment. As for me, tribes 2 is where it is at, and I play in pubs an average of 3-6 hours a day. daydreamer 05-21-2001, 05:19 PM Half-Life was and still is buggy as hell. [Jackal-RG-] 05-21-2001, 05:19 PM For those of you who are saying T1 did not have any teamplay elements are either really stupid or did not play in competition. For example...we (Run and Gun) tried to take #1 from IE way back in the day. (remember that match Nat?) There is no way in hell even Natural could have taken our flag by him self. IE won anginst us and everyone else because they had great teamwork, and then second to teamwork, great talent. That was a frustrating match for us btw....:p In a pub however, (t1) for the most part it could be a cowboy's game just because no one was trying to play as a team. I agree with slut, you can cowboy in T2, trust me. nullper 05-21-2001, 05:19 PM Originally posted by daydreamer WTF oh well, CF I wasn't personally attacking you. I admit doing so with nullp but comon... Why don't you guys just let us get the shit off our chests, I don't understand why people like Nullper and PJ have to come into threads like this and ass it up. I'm not the same as PJ though we both like T2 I don't flame (or try not to) I simply offer less flame intensive argument. If you want to bitch you gotta deal with people who will try to prove you wrong if you want to bitch in private do it in IRC nigafool 05-21-2001, 05:20 PM Originally posted by the-saint00 Your an idiot Giga. Then you go on to refute nothing I said in my post. Here were my points: 1. Tribes 1 gameplay owned everything else. All the other fps's to come out after were basically the same shit over and over. Tribes had a jetpack, which alone added a dimension to the game unlike no other. Please tell me how Tribes 1 had inferior gameplay. 2. I found Tribes 2 to be very beautiful on my Voodoo3, particularly some of the DOX maps (even the base maps were pretty attractive). Tribes 1 had a very clean cut and smooth look. Tribes 2 looks like Kay-Bee Toy Store provided the weapons. Please tell me why Tribes looked inferior to other games, and spare the "ooh the engine was incredible, ooh ooh, cream my pants over realism in a video game, ooh ooh." axeofblood 05-21-2001, 05:21 PM Lontime no see Nat. KA shouldn't you be marching in the gay parade somewhere. :D Nice to see you to. I stopped playing T2 on the account of the holy grail of UE's that plague me. I've tried fixing it but i don't feel like wasting my time anymore. I would play T1 but i don't know of any good pubbing servers anymore. If anyone knows a few post em for me an ill stop in for a few games. Until then i'll be playing CS and EQ. Project2501 05-21-2001, 05:22 PM Well your still an idiot for ever owning anything related to 3DFX. :finger: Vulcan 05-21-2001, 05:23 PM Ataque la casa de los huevos! daydreamer 05-21-2001, 05:24 PM Originally posted by the-saint00 Well your still an idiot for ever owning anything related to 3DFX. :finger: That is a pretty moronic statement considering 3dfx started the whole 3d gaming card concept. Besides, we all loved Tribes, it ran the best with a 3dfx card. How is that being idiotic for purchasing the best gear for what you do? daydreamer 05-21-2001, 05:26 PM Heaven is a pretty good server. I thought about opening up a new T1 server but I opted for T2. I am still giving this bitch a try, and doing it competitively, but I keep getting disappointed. I guess that is stupid to do the same thing over and over and expect a different outcome right? See maybe Nat was right for only playing it for 8 hours. BTW, play on Neutrino's Particle Accelerator if your looking for a west coast server. :D Vulcan 05-21-2001, 05:26 PM The 3dfx Voodoo3 2000 owns tribes 1 & 2 believe it or not but that is not a moronic statement Zeek 05-21-2001, 05:33 PM /me's $0.02: -movement in T2: it's all in slow motion. It is mentally draining for me to try and do a HO run now - or even move around in the game for that matter. -when I do actually make it to the base/flag I die within 30 seconds. turrets are almost invisible and far too lethal, and there are ussually way too many defenders around. That and the flag is ussually deep inside a base to boot. -1 to 2 minutes gearing up and in transit, < 30 seconds spent doing your job 'cause you can't do shit in a heavy. -bombers are basically useless and can be taken down by a shrike within 20 seconds of being spotted. -vehicle controls are a complete JOKE. when i move the mouse to the left, the plane should BANK left. When I pull back on the mouse the plane should turn (if banked), with the rate determined by how far you move the mouse. vehicle physics are screwy. -mortar splash damage is nill. -etc, it's all been said b4. Maybe they realize there are areas that need work, maybe not. I won't be playing very much of T2 till they make some big changes. I ussually only fire it up to see what the latest patch has done, plus maybe once or twice a week cause it's the only new game on my computer. nigafool 05-21-2001, 05:33 PM Originally posted by the-saint00 Well your still an idiot for ever owning anything related to 3DFX. :finger: Ok. So you admit your earlier post was a load of bullshit, and you basically have no answer to my points. At least you're paying attention. I bought a Voodoo3 for a game I played religiously (and still do play) for 3 years. I would consider that a wise investment, considering the card worked well with every other game that was popular and is popular. It works fine for T2 after the wickedGL updates. I wouldn't consider myself an idiot at all, faggot. Project2501 05-21-2001, 05:35 PM 3DFX was the first yes. But only for the voodoo 1, and 2(kind of). After that nVidia came along with there TNT which pretty much nailed 3dfx and eventually lead to there downfall (finally, lol). They tried with there voodoo3 but then came the TNT2. HAH. Then GeForce and then 3dfx did the dumbest thing of all and took there try and antialiasing with the v5. Oh brother, thats all i had to say. I'v never liked 3dfx products. They've always run like shit, and been buggy as hell when doing anything else but playing games. I mean tribes 1 ran coo on a voodoo3, but ran better on a TNT, or TNT2. I put a voodoo3 in my g/f's computer and it runs games alright (half-ass quality but oh well) but man its horrible when your doing desktop appz such as Photoshop or anything like that. 3dfx was just a company who happened to strike at the right time earlier in the past. I give all innovation to nVidia. BurnYaBad 05-21-2001, 05:35 PM Nat, well said. It took me 18 months to get the skills needed to face you on the flagstand, and I must say, thank you. There were maybe 4 flaggers in the game I aways wanted to face just once and you were one of them. Peace Nat, I hope you find a game that makes you dream strats at night, and convert players in the daylight. If you find that game, email me! Burny PS: Some of you people never knew the type of player Natural was, and that will be YOUR LOSS. He was more of a team player in Tribes 1 than 99% of the tribes 2 players will ever be. | ||
