Psyc 06-03-2007, 01:12 AM What keeps you coming back to an massive multiplayer game? Is it the endless game play, the grind, the raids, the pvp, or the social interaction? In this article I plan on discussing this in detail in a attempt to discover the real reason I keep returning to the addictive massive multiplayer format. ... In conclusion, I feel that the pull of the MMO is a multitude of things and mostly depends on the type of person. Whether it be the competitive side of the game, or the social interaction, the massive multiplayer online format is probably one of the worst things for keeping you inside and locked up. The only way to stop the addiction is not to start playing in the first place, and I support that. Now I gotta run off and finish installing Lineage ][ because writing this article prompted me to re-activate my account! ==================== Cliffs: 1. What is the reason? 2. I'm not sure, it's probably a variety of reasons, thanks for reading my worthless article Amadeus 06-04-2007, 08:45 AM Oh no! It's a blinding flash of the obvious! Wrathchild 06-04-2007, 07:12 PM lol @ Lineage 2 fan.. that should tell you enough. kraska 06-04-2007, 08:28 PM This reads like a middle school homework assignment and provides just about as much information. Why did this make front page? fedex 06-04-2007, 09:51 PM A blog post you made yourself with no research or insight. What a dumb news post. haniblecter 06-05-2007, 11:51 AM I like the new digg style. Cause we get to lamb blast any jackass that thinks some shit is news worth. Vermouth 06-05-2007, 12:34 PM regarding why we play mmo's - personally, i think it's just an escape. people play it for the same reason they sit in front of the tv for hours at a time - it's a method of avoiding everything else in real life. avoiding facing real life, avoiding thinking about it, avoiding other people, avoiding confrontation, etc. for some people, it gives a sense of purpose to an otherwise pathetic state of affairs. NecroSen 06-06-2007, 06:05 PM Personally, it's just something else to do. I've got friends, fraternity brothers, a girlfriend, a dog, school, a decent-paying job, and sometimes I'm bored with what's leftover. I don't feel like buying more and more $60 games because it's not worth the price sometimes and when I'm done with it, I'm done with it. The MMO keeps moving and changing, offering some new challenges every now and then. It's not a choice of lifestyle, it's a choice of game. Why did I use to keep coming back to playing Tribes almost every other day back in high school? Why do some folks still play it today? Why do people play BF2 forever and ever? The answer to why people come back to MMOs is because of the online gaming experience in general: playing with and against other people rather than a cooked-up AI over and over. Asking why people play an MMO as opposed to living their real lives is a different matter entirely. Personally, I've gotta get to my night class. | ||
