Linksys Router Issues WRT54G

OK, here's the situation. I have a Linksys wireless router, v8.

I have two computers connected by cat5 to the router, my main comp, and a secondary older computer. I also use the wireless sporadically for a laptop, but that is fairly rare. Port 1 & 2 are used, I've switched them around but I still have the same issue.

The thing is, when my old computer is on, if I start it up, it won't pull up web pages. It's as if the router just forgot that computer was there. Or as if there is some sort of "idle timeout" where it just starts ignoring that port after a certain time of inactivity.

I've never had a problem where the pages would stop loading when the old computer is in use, it just seems to happen when I turn the computer off and leave it be for a while. A restart of the router is all that is require to get it working again.

Also, I never have this issue with my main computer. Maybe because I use it constantly, but I've gone days where I've been out of town and I use my main comp, I've never had it turn on and just refuse to pull up web pages.

I was going to change the firmware just for the hell of it, but it seems no third party firmware is available for the version 8 model of this particular router.

I was thinking maybe the NIC is going in the old computer, but I don't understand why it only is a problem when the computer is idle. And why restarting only the router fixes the problem (actually I have to check that, recently i've been resetting the power strip with both the router and old computer plugged into it). I'm pretty sure just restarting the router fixed it at least once though.

Are both computers setup to obtain an IP via DHCP ("obtain ip address automatically")? If one is set with a static address that conflicts with the existing address for another machine, you'll notice problems. I think you'll usually see a popup alerting you to the problem in Windows, though.
