Sony Corp. released video of the new 2.5-inch display Friday. In it, a hand squeezes a display that is 0.3 millimeters, or 0.01 inch, thick. Although flat-panel TVs are getting slimmer, a display that's so thin it bends in a human hand marks a breakthrough.

"In the future, it could get wrapped around a lamppost or a person's wrist, even worn as clothing," said Sony spokesman Chisato Kitsukawa. "Perhaps it can be put up like wallpaper."

organic leds were supposed to revolutionize the monitor market. yet so far it's only been included in a few pdas and cellphones. can't see how this revolutionary display technology is any better. it's all promises

Well despite the hate for whatever reason (lol sony sucks), that seems pretty damn cool. Even if that specific product doesn't make it, it shows that the technology is there and we'll be seeing paper thin video displays all over the place at some point (which seems sweet to me).

there are many things involved in a technology becoming a new standard. whether it's better than the current technology is one of the less important criteria

The point is they built it. This has the potential to replace newspapers and magazines some day. Want a paperless office? This is the technology that helps make that finally a reality. I just hope it doesn't take 50 years to perfect the technology and manufacturing processes to make it cost effective.
