CD/DVD drive no longer works

IBM thinkpad T40 windows xp 2002

i press the open button and it doesnt open :(

driver is updated and installed properly

already tried the uninstall reinstall

my dvd programs tell me that it cannot find dvd cd rom device


help please :\

Does it appear on explorer or does it not exist at all? Is there a CD in there? Have you tried using a paperclip in the eject slot? Is it plugged in or did you check the connections if you could?
