filsinger 05-10-2007, 02:53 PM Games hardware sales figures for the week of April 23rd - 29th in Japan have been revealed. They show that Wii sales are up, and continue to make a mockery of the PS3 in an 8:1 ratio.rnrn * DS Lite - 255,971rn * Wii - 102,522rn * PSP - 33,860rn * PS3 - 12,791rn * Xbox 360 - 3,162rnrn
Cool. However, based on this scientific graph,

It's not really that much of a mockery
Edofnor 05-10-2007, 03:22 PM Racist japs still won't buy the xbox.
BodyShoT 05-10-2007, 04:30 PM Houston in 3..2..1..
houston 05-10-2007, 08:27 PM different price point and different demographic
Shadow13 05-10-2007, 09:10 PM hey its still beating the 360
Piata 05-10-2007, 10:41 PM And the publishers and 3rd party developers response: HAY! LETS MAKE MORE PS TRIPLE GAMES!!
CarpeIppon 05-10-2007, 10:42 PM ugh, why is t-dub always behind on news. here is hardware for 4/30-5/06
DSL 285,123
Wii 101,320
PSP 35,172
PS2 14,815
PS3 12,974
Xbox360 3,205
GC 394
Software for last week is even more telling. 26 of the top 30 titles are either on the DS or the Wii. First non-nintendo platform title comes in at #22.
different price point and different demographicAnd what demographic would that be houston? The PS2 didn't kick the GC's ass this badly.
Shadow13 05-11-2007, 11:28 AM And what demographic would that be houston? The PS2 didn't kick the GC's ass this badly.the ps2 and the gamecube were pretty much the same console fool. the wii and ps3 are not only two different demographics, but very different price points. You are trying to compare apple and oranges, ps3 went the high tech next gen expensive route, wii went the low cost welfare (not a jab) route.
Of course a cheap (but good) console is going to outsell an expensive (and good in a different way) console. There is more people on this earth willing to spend a couple hundred dollars on entertainment then 600.
CarpeIppon 05-11-2007, 12:39 PM Different demographics my ass. They are both targeting people who want to play games. You can argue demographics all you want, but Sony never believed their console would only be selling 12k a week less than 6 months after launch. Thats the bottom line. The wii will have enough of an install base to justify making mid-high budget games for, and the PS3 won't.

If you think there is no demographic difference between a 250 dollar console and a 600 dollar console you are out of your mind.
Ascoe 05-11-2007, 01:45 PM The part of this that blows me away is that they sold twice as many ds's as wii's.
houston when the PS2 was kicking the GC's ass, everyone said the same thing. Nintendo is too kiddy. In fact they still say that. Nintendo's demographic hasn't changed at all, it's the same as it always was. Making cheap consoles that are family friendly. The PS2 and the Xbox were more expensive tech models. Their demographic hasn't changed.

That is a HUGE difference which is PARTIALLY (Note I said partially, not fully) why there is such a huge margin of difference.

That is a HUGE difference which is PARTIALLY (Note I said partially, not fully) why there is such a huge margin of difference. As a pretty heavy duty gamer, I bought a Wii because I'm already bored with everything Sony and Microsoft are currently doing. I'm single, employed, between the ages of 18 and 30, with a large disposable income.
Isn't that PS3 and Xbox's demographic? And yet I bought a Wii. If the Sony wanted to hit a niche market, they definitely succeeded.
Shadow13 05-11-2007, 10:11 PM that is like trying to say because you, 1 customer bought a wii and not the ps3 that the other 110k users did. The bottom line, no matter how much fanboi spin people want to try and put on it is that the wii sells those types of numbers in part due to its low price point and high entertainment value.
If the PS3 was near that price you could expect it would be damn near that number in sales. It wouldn't surpass the Wii I agree because of the game libraries (which what does wii have that is so great? I mean seriously, I know it has a couple more games then ps3 but you guys try to make it sound like its the second coming of christ)
Actually I'm currently disappointed in the amount of Wii games out there. The difference is that what I've seen and what I expect to see are games that are different and unique compared to the next-gen console FPS games and 3rd person crime spree games that we've grown so accustomed to.
