Feannag 04-11-2007, 03:09 AM After getting my main hunter to 70 I decided to look at my lower alts. Have a ltitle 38 mage whose profesionally decked (300 tailoring 225) and had some fond memories of not only questing/soloing as him but getting into reasonable pickups on dungeons. Just recently picked up the staff from Library and that lvl 39 hat from Cath, the one many a vet mage tell me you use practically to lvl 50ish.
But I looked into it and am presently gauging on making him a "part-time twink" at lvl 39 to earn enough honor for a full lvl 60 epic armor set and weapons. I know it's a LOT of honor, but I haven't done steady work in the BGs for a long time so it's possible it wouldn't be as long if the BGs were decent. Also I feel the PvPing will give me more experience in how to PvP with mages. But I'm not entirely sure if my attention will hold against farming that much honor. Plus he's completely not a twink in any sense of the word now.
So any opinions/thoughts on that? Would it even be worth it to do so? And if it is was would be a reasonable talent spec for the lvl 39 bracket?
Shikai 04-11-2007, 09:34 AM I personally wouldn't waste the time if you were planning to lvl him to 70. I had full pvp set when TBC came out, and was replacing pieces within hours of going through the portal.
I'm lvling a pally now. I stop at every x9 lvl, do enough pvp to grab the specific BG rewards (AB boots/WSG bracers/etc), then continue to lvl once I've got those 2-3 pieces. Only time this pattern changed was when I hit 51 to do a single AV for my IBS (amazingly, horde won it, so I only had to do that one!).

Well from my experience they're not so easily replaced. I already levelled my hunter to 70 and she's still wearing 4/8 T1 gear, and believe me I tried to change them out but there was never honestly any better. Though for the record I never got any dungeon blues that whole time so that may account for it.
Also which class did you have the full PvP set? I have seen and heard good things about the mage's sets. I knew a couple on Deathwing who wore all T2 and all PvP blue and they would piss alliance off so badly, they ganked with glee and it got to the point alliance had to zerg them close to 5 to 1 just to kill them.
caster loot in BC is nice, quest reward or not. You would be better served grinding honor for 70s gear/weapons
TseTse 04-11-2007, 10:47 AM i dont understand what the hell you actually intend to do.
you want your 39 to be lvl 70 or 60? are you keeping him 39 as a twink or not?
if you want a lvl 70 pvp alt, then just level the fucker and grind AV at that point. much better honor and you'd get all the pvp epics/blues in a couple weeks.

No twink, just want to hit Outlands with a reasonable set of gear. I'll have to look into lvl 70 purple set and about AV at 51ish then if that's the case. But I will be hitting the respective BGs on holidays though, I have always found there's tons more activity overall when holidays are up. Only problem is that's when the raiders come out to grind, but that was easily 6 months ago or so.
I'll just level to 51 then, grind AV or whichever BG is on holiday and compared what I pull in in honor with the total set cost and see how long it would take me to get it all and if I feel it's feasible to do so. It's going to server two purposes really, one is getting a reasonable PvP set to either PvP in general or play BGs or arenas (assuming there's some decent people there, unsure right now) and fighting a lot in BGs will give me some more experience in how to PvP as a mage. PvPing that much will garner more experience from composing me to more players from varying skill levels to get a better idea how I should be fighting.
PvPing as a hunter to me is a little annoying. Too many goddamn buttons and your tactics seem strictly based on your spec. And I'd rather not have to keep re-speccing to do farming/PvPing.
Lord Elessar 04-11-2007, 11:37 AM I went to outlands with my lock in some dreadmist and blue pvp rewards. I replaced all of it by the time I hit 63. No need to grind for level 60 gear. You could get 2 characters all the way to 70 by the time you have one geared in GM stuff.
Calder 04-11-2007, 11:48 AM You will replace half your gear within an hour in outlands if you do the right quests, shut up

You're putting way too much caution and thought into this.
You do NOT need decent gear to go to outlands. :)
YOu can be in a bunch of shitty ass greens at 60 and do just fine ffs. If the goal is an alt at 70 for pvp, then just quest your way there... dont fuckin waste time dicking around to "prepare."
Hit 70 quickly and join the AV afk grind-fest. Get your alt on a 5man arena team that plays just enough games per week for some arena points, then wait it out. You will start to get decently pimped out quickly with just honor points, if you grind.
Honor grinding pre-70 is a waste.
Gearing up pre-60 is a waste.

I did all the non-dungeon quests in HFP, Zang, Nagrand, Blade's Edge and most of Trekk, got to 70 and I haven't found better than the 4 pieces of Giantstalker I'm still wearing (Helm, bracers, boots, shoulders). And it's not even the pet-based set bonus, I compared them to every quest green and blue piece I got for those slots and nothing has toppled them yet. No dungeons though but the fact still remains if 4 pieces of shitty Tier 1 (which was MC, how long ago has it been since THAT was top?) can still hold up in Outlands your opinion of just disposable gear is flawed.

Look. Each class is a little different, but honestly... who gives a fuck? Your alt isnt going to be leveling in Tier2, now, is he?
His point stands.
Just stfu and level your char to 70, if you intend it to be a lvl 70 pvp alt. :)
You can pick up halaa pants and a few other pieces here/there which will be viable for lvl 70 pvp initially. You will want lots of stam and would be FINE in simple greens and some blues at 70 while you grind honor.
And again, you will get better honor at 70...

LOL @ 4/8 t1 gear @ 70
Raven 04-11-2007, 05:37 PM if your hunter is 70 and you haven't replaced your tier one shit you cannot add or subtract
you can wear even level greens in outland and be fine
slygambler 04-11-2007, 07:05 PM LOL
4/8 Tier 1 @ 70???
HAHAHAH
Tier 3 is understandable if you wanted to get to 70 quick. Tier 1 = you just botted your way to 70 and didn't do any quests/dungeons to replace anything??
NiceBoy 04-11-2007, 07:52 PM the honor grind is much better in eots now
that is, if your faction wins at least 51% of the eots's

Any hunter wearing tier 1 at 70 should be stabbed in the face. the filter I used was for items 61-65. If you can't gear out of MC/BWL loot by 65+ you fail or just grinded all the way to 70. At which point I ask why even play if you skip 90% of the content this game has to offer. There is stuff in between level 1 and max level.

Every new piece I got that would have been a replacement for them always failed, I watched stats and switching to the new piece yielding more downs than ups.
And like I said, I never did dungeons so you factor out those dungeon quest blues or boss blues.
Let's see...
Boots of the Outlander drops in Mana Tombs. Didn't do any dungeons.
Lykul Bloodbands drop in Underbog, again didn't do dungeons.
Gurn's Horned Helmet is from an Alliance quest, I'm Horde.
Scorpid-Sting Mantle drops in Slave Pens, once again didn't do dungeons.
Now STFU.

you fail at wow then. why skip new content and rush to 70? you suck anyway so it's not like endgame has any meaning for you.
Feannag 04-11-2007, 11:00 PM Cry more, seriously. Cry me a new Mississippi. I did BF and most of Ramparts one time or another but PUGs as you all know suck. I was muchly enjoying the content I did do, but for the most part I never saw many groups up and advertising and when I did they either didn't want a hunter or they fell apart due to lack of <insert Triad class here>.
Lord Elessar 04-11-2007, 11:06 PM I'm not the one with shit for gear.
