Currently Have:

2 processors running - Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.00GHz
2.99 GHz Performance Rated at 4.49 GHz
You Have: 1022.1 MB RAM
RADEON X600 Series (RADEON X600 (0x5B62))

My question is, if I upgrade my VC to something like Newegg.com - SAPPHIRE 100196L Radeon X1950PRO 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 HDCP Video Card - Retail (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168 14102075) would I be able to play games for the next year or so? Namely Quake Wars and maybe even Age of Conan. So would I need to scrap my whole PC, or would a VC enough to cut it for a while? Also if I were to upgrade my VC, what type of info do i need to check to make sure its compatiable with my motherboard and such?

so for about 200-300 dollars i would be set for about a year? (card estimated to 200, ram 100)

RAM's more expensive than that, 2 gigs go for around $200. But yeah, it would keep you up to date for at least a year, probably more if you don't insist on playing everything on max settings.
