iexplore.exe errors.

I have 2 brand new computers I am working on.
I have installed all the windows updates including IE7 and Fsecure antivirus.
That is all.

When I turn the computer on and the following error appears:

Internet Explorer encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

If i go into the event viewer I see the following error:

Faulting Application:iexplore.exe ver. 6.0.2900.2180, Faulting Module, Version 0.0.0.0 at address 0x00000000.

This happens only after I do all the windows updates until I see the screen proclaiming there are no more updates to install.

The error is the same with IE 7 installed, just a different version number. I tried uninstalling it to see if it was the issue and had no luck.

I have used system restore to go back to an earlier time, no good.
I have used the restore cd to set the computer back to original, which works
great if I don't install windows updates. As soon as I do the problem returns.
I have tried completely reformatting the drive and doing a clean install from the xp professional cd. Same thing happens.

It sounds like a bad windows update, but if that were the case I would be finding more people having the same issue. Anyone else having issues with IE after updates??

Any other suggestions besides use another browser? Unfortunately that is not an option.

have you tried not installing Fsecure to see what the behavior is?

Yeah. It still happens..

I've restarted from scratch 3 times now.. this last time I restored it to factory defaults. Did windows updates one at a time rebooting after each one.. The error didn't come up for a while, until I installed google earth.

Now it appears to be giving me a real error about ntdll.dll. which I hope to hunt down shortly. At least now I have something to work with. I guess that's some progress ;)
