Memory could not be read

Here are the symptoms:

Computer randomly spits up the following error:

The title bar states iexplore.exe

The instruction at 0x006b5ca6 referenced memory at
0x006b5ca6. The memory could not be read.

This happens at random. It happens at the domain logon, before I've
even signed in..

Brand new computer. Fresh format. I've uninstalled IE, and I still get this message despite the fact that iexplore.exe is no longer on the system.

Once I log in I get the error that the computer has recovered from a serious error.

When I look in the event viewer I see the following:

Application error
Faulting application: iexplore.exe version7.0.6000.16414, faulting module unknown, version 0.0.0.0, fault address 0x006b5ca6.

I've already reformatted the machine once.. only seems to start doing it after I have all the windows updates done..

any thoughts?

Yeah, do a selective install when you update and de-select all IE updates if that seems to be the problem. Use Firefox, and you won't miss anything from IE.

I can't help much beyond that...
