AUSTIN – The House endorsed death sentences for habitual child predators and harsher penalties for other offenders on Monday after lawmakers spent all weekend trying to fix the politically popular bill in peril.

The legislation known as "Jessica's Law" would remove the statute of limitations from most sex offenses against children and create a new felony in Texas – continuous abuse of a child, defined as at least two offenses over at least 30 days.

That crime would carry a mandatory sentence of 25 years in prison for a first conviction. A second conviction would be a capital offense, eligible for life in prison without parole or the death penalty.

...The legislation, named for a Florida girl killed two years ago and part of a nationwide move to toughen penalties for sex offenders, was approved, 118-23. Every "no" vote was cast by a Democrat – many of whom said they worried it wouldn't deter the crime, but the reporting of it.

"It does more damage to our children than good," said Rep. Terri Hodge, D-Dallas. "I'm afraid it will stop children from actually saying that a person has sexually assaulted them.

"If it's a close family member, I don't believe they'd be willing to give the information because of the death penalty. My goal is to do things to help our children, not hurt them."

I know ppl who are gay and they werent born that way, it is so hard for ppl to accept that they just enjoy that type of sexual preference that they came up with the excuse that they are born that way. Most are gay because of how they are raised. Or if they were abused sexually as a child. Or they just like man sex. Pedifiles make that choice too, their sexual preference are children, they are not born that way. Again I think it goes back to how they were raised. I think Pedifiles should be castrated completely. Just be like a enuich. Then they cant hurt children anymore. Gays need to just be honest and stop hiding behind the "I was born this way" excuse.

The gay community's reasoning behind their need/right to marriage is that they are the way they are by nature and therefore dont have a choice in who they fall in love with, just like straights..so they should be allowed to marry. And again, that is very possible. Deviancy from the norm in nature IS the norm in nature in many instances.

So how is violent behavior any different. Probably similar to gays, there are many that are just fucked up from the womb. They do not, and can not, by nature adhere to the moral code that this society has that pertains to life and interaction with others, and can never be changed. The only difference is that the gays arent a physical threat, where in the case of pedophillia, they are sexual predators that often turn violent.

Therefore, they are a sick animal that is a danger. We put down mammals when their sickness becomes a threat to humans, just because this sick animal (violent offender/sexual predator) is a human, that doesnt diminish the risk to everyone else, if anything it makes them more dangerous. Why would we treat this any different. Trials will not cure them, but will most likely give them an 'out' through a defense of insanity, which means that sooner or later they will probably make it back out into society, to still cause a danger, and now be probably otherwise mentally fucked up due to what can only be experimental treatments that could worsen the issue.

Bullet to the head. Everyone is safe, nobdy is wasting thier time with a 'cure' that will never do anything, nobody is spending money on rehab and incarceration that will never work.

I am not gay nor am I pedophile, so I have no fucken idea what it is like to be either or way either one of them are the way they are, I am not convinced there is any correlation between the two.

As noted, Juggs seems to be on a no trial kick. He doesn't appear to understand that trials are for the protection of the innocent, and everyone is presumed innocent unless the state can prove otherwise. It is the only way a free society can exist. Sure, its expensive in both time and resources, but aren't YOUR rights worth it?

You dont 'accidentally' get accused of something like pedophilia if you arent anywhere around where its happening. If you are and didnt report it to both convict the guilty and not the innocent, then you are still guilty.
