Nintendo Holding Back on Online Play

This is some bad news. Nintendo is not letting publishers add online functionality to games, VC or retail, and probably will continue this restriction throughout 2007. I assume its still sorting out infrastructure or integration. But either way it sucks.

main reason i sold my wii :(

they obviously don't think online is important - but look at xbox live's success and realize it obviously is

and if they do think it's important they should have had their act together before they released the system

there is still plenty to do with out that anyways.

and it will come. I personally wouldn't have sold my wii over it, but you probably got a good price, and then pick another up in a few months?

Throughout 2007????

:ugh:

Which is why people go for the Wii60 bundle I guess. I just want to get a few games I can play with my buddies from afar.

Hopefully it's taking this long because they are removing the stupid friend code shit.

heh yeah, converting to having names.

and the Wii60 thing is of note really. I do play online with friends on the 360. I only play the 360 offline with a select few friends. Whereas the wii everyone who comes to my house just about plays it. Sure if it had online i would probably play it online, but its very much more my system for a few people in my lounge room having fun.

Well it doesn't say anything about Nintendo-published games. We know almost for certain that Battalion Wars II and Mario Strikers will have online multiplayer, and Smash isn't even guaranteed to have online. It sounds like there's something technical keeping them from letting 3rd parties at the code.

And I would honestly doubt it's just Nintendo giving themselves a leg up on their own system, especially after how hard they've worked trying to get developers interested in their console.

Also, I doubt it applies to all online content. Elebits shipped out the door with the ability to trade custom maps online.
