A tipster sends word that The Porn Talk, a site backed by a secretive faith-based ministry in California, is prepping to attack Nintendo's Wii and other gaming devices, calling them "portals to porno" in a press release.

attack is a pretty strong word here.

ThePornTalk.com is an innovative web resource that helps parents talk to their kids about porn and internet dangers. The site features conversation starters, videos, a weekly podcast, parent's stories and other resources. Contributors to the site include child advocates, pastors, therapists, and kids themselves.

that is at the bottom of the article you posted. If all they are doing is doing is providing information to parents about what the wii can do (which from what i can tell that is all that site is saying) exactly where in the harm? Thats not attacking it. Parents who don't realise that they can get porn on the wii do need to be educated. they could well have filtering software on the PC, but the wii is wide open. i see no problem with this.

that said, american christians do have some wackjobs. blowing up abortion clinics and such like. if attack goes beyond just targeting some of their info at the wii, then it is a problem. if attacking equals a DOS or something, then i take an issue with the group.

I merely followed the articles title. Also when a Christian group badmouths or 'informs' people about something they dislike, I really haven't heard them give both sides of the story at any point, only their own. Thats fairly 'attacking'.

Calling them "portals to porno" sounds like an attack in itself. It's that type of short anti-slogan that people remember.

so because you want porn you therefore are anti the group. What about parents out there who have kids?

hell the whole Wii friend code crap is there to avoid kids getting involved with sexual predators online (or so nintendo says). Yet they leave the net wide open? Its retarded. They are far more likely to get some dirty old man through the browser on the normal internet (myspace) then they are though the old men randomly adding friends if their names are stuff like JohnnyFive or PonyClub or some crap.

See where this is going? Now even the Bible can make us do it, so obviously video games can. Here's the catch: "We're not saying that just in and of itself violent media is uniformly bad but oftentimes there is no redeeming context to it. If one reads the scriptures with an understanding of context, both historical as well as with a (desire) to hear what God is trying to teach us, you can read it in a different way." What BYU professor Robert Ridge seems to imply is that, when taken in context, the Bible ultimately teaches one to pursue peace and love; whereas, he believes most games lack this overarching theme of harmony. Discerning Bible studiers can actually decrease their aggression -- as for active gamers, well, not so much.

The new study, which determined "aggression" by how loud a subject chose to blast an obnoxious sound in another subject's ears, is co-written by University of Michigan psychologist Brad Bushman. Bushman was a member of the American Psychological Association's Committee on Violence in Video Games and Interactive Media when in August 2005 the group issued a report linking violent games to increased aggression. Hmmm ... smell an agenda?

Study finds correlation between violent scripture and aggression, similar to games - Joystiq (http://www.joystiq.com/2007/02/28/study-finds-correlation-between-violent-scripture-and-aggression/)

I always read that as "the rapists" thanks to SNL.

Wii's don't kill people, people do.
