i heard new cars get a decent undercoat from the factory and dealer undercoat could actually plug up drain holes in the frame

im coming from a long line of rust buckets so im wondering if its worth it

I don't think you can stop rust really, if you live in the north.

There is no rust in Colorado. It's fantasmic.

My 1993 has like an inch thick undercoat. It'd be a holey piece of shit without it...

Dealership rust protection is a joke. It can actually fuck shit up if they don't do it right (which they typically don't).

As far as cars coming with decent rust protection - that's a joke too. For example: 2004 F-150's were rusting in the MIDDLE of the right bedside - they forgot to clean the inside of it before they put the vibration pads down. Dirt would get between the pad/metal (because they didn't coat the bare metal, really), and the thing would begin popping from the inside out. (Was a recall on them)

That's only one example, I've seen other issues when I've been under cars.

Lets equate it to dental care. What is your ass worth if all your teeth fall out?

If you live anywhere that puts salt on the road, i'd recommend a good undercoating. Well that is.. unless you ENJOY stepping through the floorpanels.

Well, we've never done this before. But seeing as it's special circumstances and all, he says I can knock a hundred dollars off that Trucoat.

If your worried about rust make sure you wash the underside and the rest of your car often in the winter. If there is alot of slush on the road with all the salt and sand clean your ride as soon as the road are clear again. This is the best way to keep your car rust free.
