cheezit 11-24-2006, 10:55 AM i've wanted to start playing poker again for a while, but i've been poor due to life. of course i'm never too poor for $50.
bought in $50 yesterday, my goal is to get my $1k+ bankroll back that i miss so much. i'll keep to my limits, doing only 5.50 or less buyins and some micro cash games until i get the bankroll for more, and maybe the occaisional $10 mtt. i'll try to keep the thread updated.
Yesterday. i bought in with $50, sat down at a 360 person 5.50 buyin, busted just out of the money trying to get a stack. won a 5.50 single table, won a 5.25 heads up match, was up a bit at a .25/.5 stud/8 game. nothing outstanding.
Starting Balance: $50
Ending Balance: $57.35

Blackfade 11-24-2006, 04:05 PM good luck, i dont think mtt's are worth it for bankroll building though

was up about $10 in another micro cash game. won a heads up match in the first hand with AA over 10 10. went 0 for 2 in 4.40 20 tables. didn't get to play a lot due to work. busted in both 20 table sngs in the 30-50 range when a semi-steal attempt turned into a coinflip gone bad against a short stack and rode a dry deck to an oom bust.
and yeah, MTTs aren't worth it for bankroll building, but if i'm up a bit on the day i don't mind putting some down on a 20 table. i've done fairly well in them and i think if i can keep playing well it'll pay off eventually in a nice FT payout. definately not building my br on them tho.
should also note i'm kind of trying to teach myself to play NL cash games a bit while building my roll. i've never spent much time with nl cash games and i figure now's as good a time as any.

Big day. started off quick, won a 2 table sng, but lost $10 in a .05/.1 nl game.. went to work and came back to go on a nice run at another .05/.1 table. sat down with $10(max), left the table with $92.50. got 2 outted in a 20 table with ~70 left in a hand that would have put me in decent shape.
i know i have a small sample, but so far people in this micro limit nl game are downright terrible. seems like every time you get a set or flush you can push and they'll just find a reason to call.

yep, micro NL is very profitable. Ekos once said it's like printing your own money, and he's totally right

very up and down day. started off on a good note winning a 5.50 sng and two $5 heads up matches. got greedy and entered a 3r 10k guarenteed, $12 dollars later i gave up on that. i was down about $10 at .05/.1. ended the day busting 90th in a $2.20 mtt that had about 1100 entrants, kind of sucks to play that long and cash for $4. oh well, can't complain i guess.
if i remember i'll start posting some notable hand histories from my days in review.
grats, im still doing a lot of reading :)

didn't play a lot, maybe up $5 at .05/.1 cash games, but probably didn't get 300 hands in. lost 1 heads up match, won 1. ended the night by winning a 5.50 single table sng.
given that my numbers don't really add up right. not sure where the rest came from. i need to start keeping better track of my sng/session stats. i'll work on that in the coming days.

missed a day, and needless to say, i've been humbled a bit. i'm not really sure if i'm unlucky or doing some donk shit, but i'm dropping buyins at $10NL left and right. posting a few HHs from my past two days, don't have comments on all of them, i should have put comments witht hem when i copied them, but i didn't.
any help would be appreciated. i've played more nl ring games in the past week than i had in my entire poker playing career prior.

i didn't completely ignore the obvious straight possibility on this hand, and was kind of hoping after the turn that he had the other end of it, if not i was betting and hoping to boat up. I thought the flop bet was alright, not sure what i'm supposed to do with that turn though.

i really feel like i donked off this one. that reraise screams 2 pair, and thats exactly what i thought when i was raising, just not sure how i came to the conclusion that raising was the right option. could i justify calling here or should i have let it go on the flop despite hitting top pair?
cheezit 12-01-2006, 02:34 AM BB had been calling all of my raises, no matter what. he took me for a ~$6 pot maybe 50 hands earlier and instacalled any time i raised ever since, while folding numerous times to raises by other players. if i had to describe his post flop play i'd say he was a calling station, but he never showed down better than 2nd pair that i'd seen when calling to a showdown. obviously its a gross overbet, but is this 100% fold all the time?

took a shot and missed on this one. my read was right. is the second bullet a bad play? in hindsight its kind of dumb to think that he'd fold to the second after calling the first. he took his time on both calls, giving me a bit of false hope.
i'm guessing i know the answer to this one, don't bluff at this level. i haven't done much bluffing to this point, i tried to get away with one here tho.

just out of the money, UTG had made a habit of min raising so i didn't read too much into his raise here. by the time it came back to me i was getting over 3 to 1 and didn't think it was too bad a call, i've gotten some differing opinions tho.

in the money now, 15 left. i really didn't to get in a resteal here and end up in a coinflip situation. should i have raised more or is this what i want with this hand? obviously i got unlucky but i definately didn't want this much money going into the pot with those odds at this point in the tournament. i was top 5 in chips at this point, busted 14th.

FTed a 4/20, but AK<AJ. i was running great till it got down to 9.
i should also mention that i'm typically bad at NL final tables. i've made quite a few, including 10+ 20/20s and never took one down since my first one. endgame has never been my strong suit.

 Sorry, had to laugh after I see your first losing post, then the inevitable followup where you question your game at .05/.10.
As someone with 500k+ recorded hands, I can tell you oh so much about the swings of poker. :) Learning to deal with the swings is basically rule #2 to being successful at online poker (2a is avoiding tilt). #1 is proper bankroll management (300big bets at limit, 30ish buyins bare minimum at NL and NOT playing outside of your roll). You have to learn to deal with the swings on your own. And they will be much worse when you play at a real level. It's a lot easier to go on tilt when it's 500-1000 dollars instead of 50-100. ;) Not to mention the players are better, so you will have bad swings more often. Just how it goes.
Blackfade 12-06-2006, 03:44 AM i agree 200% with the post above

i was somewhat questioning my .05/.1 game before the big losing day, but i get what you're saying. i have only had to grind out a bankroll once before and i did that playing limit. i have survived downswings(and tilts) before at higher limits, but this is my first real attempt at playing NL.
that said i'll give an update. i switched to full ring $10NL, i've never been a lag so thought 6 handed might not be for me. its helped a bit.

this doesn't tell the whole story, as i was down under $100 for a while. I honestly haven't played much with finals coming up and working, but i hit a tilt definately. after this week i'll get more into this. I've got about 4000 hands logged at $10NL and pokertracker says i'm up about $180, so tourneys and sngs are killing me right now. funny, as i'd never had guessed i was leaking that much in out of the money tourney finishes.
i'm limiting my tourney/sngs entries now. maybe 1-2 a night. mostly going to focus on ring. doubt much is gonna happen in this next week or so with finals.
