thereal Shaolinmonk 11-03-2006, 07:23 AM I'd read the 300 page story as well. I would send you money or something for a print version.
thanks again for answering questions and sharing some of this info, as a tribes fan, it has been greatly appreciated.
Rancher Dan 11-03-2006, 08:25 AM Welcome to my world. I think you just don't know how to handle a community like this. You should've gotten an expert like me!
That's a very interesting career idea that I think you really should look into.
Falhawk 11-03-2006, 08:47 AM my favorite non-tribes dymanix game was rise of the dragon
Marweas 11-03-2006, 09:07 AM Guaranteed they would have gone the same route. 100%. Don't you read Dilbert?
Menzo is absolutely right. VUG's inclination would have been to kill the project at the first sign of trouble.
Marweas 11-03-2006, 09:11 AM Here it is really simple.
What will make a successful Tribes game?
Client login to prevent theft.
Identical T1 Physics, gameplay, open ended modability and inventory assets.
T2s visual style and inventory selection system.
Limited vehicles that are a cross between the fun-ness of T2 vehicles, and the more utilitarian aspect of T1 vehicles (to keep noobs happy)
There's your perfect Tribes game in a nutshell, Tribes with better graphics.
hehe - I assure you, it's anything but simple. :)

Too much T2 content Dennis will be offended
Oh well, this thread did its job and I'm glad everyone came back :)
Stilgar 11-03-2006, 09:34 AM FPS Football... You would not believe the story behind the demise of that franchise.
I remember the game that was released and then recalled and the freebies given in it's stead.
I called that game the Clipping Bowl.
Marweas 11-03-2006, 09:37 AM GG have said that they were contacted by Sierra to make a Tribes sequel, but turned it down because they wanted to focus on their engine tech.
perhaps this was after tribes:vengeance, which would seem crazy to me, but who knows.
I did approach them at one point early on to see if they would be interested in the project and was told they were a small shop and wanted to focus on engine technology.
Stilgar 11-03-2006, 09:39 AM Anyone still have their T2 beta discs?
And the fedexx envelope it came in.
Xcursion 11-03-2006, 09:40 AM Marweas, what other companies did you contact about making a Tribes game and did a prototype?

you fucker. i hate you. i'd love to see how far along that went before they aborted and went to the newer engine instead... must be nice to have access to all that fun stuff at GG, eh?
:)
Marweas 11-03-2006, 09:53 AM Whose idea was it to try and get Motley Crue to contribute to the T2 soundtrack?
That was the work of the Jim V., the VP of Marketing at the time. He was also behind getting Yes on the Homeworld soundtrack.
Marweas 11-03-2006, 10:04 AM The first PC game I ever played when I got an EGA card was a Dynamix game
it was called Deathtrack
and it fucking owned
true story... and if any of you old dynamix people had a hand in that... I would be fucking amazed.
Holy shit, was that the one with the caltrops and mines and mini-nuke you could launch ahead? I remember that game! That was classic! Never knew Dynamix made that.
Marweas 11-03-2006, 10:11 AM Marweas, what other companies did you contact about making a Tribes game and did a prototype?
Nobody else made a prototype for T:V, though as Thrax mentioned we did get a prototype for a Madden-like Tribes CTF game.
Marweas 11-03-2006, 10:15 AM It's great to see the whole dev crew (albeit without KP) here. Much  and respect to everyone, including Dave.
And props to the Rayn, Yogi, Colosus, and the rest of the hard-working TW crew for giving us a community worth visiting so many years later.

Like mofo said, time for some beers and hugs.
I think we need another UVAlan, with a lot of dynamix/IG/GG (the new crew) coming and lots of beer and fist fights
