So my bro just got back from Iraq and we went and i got him BF2 so we can play. He has a Intel P4 3.0Hgz 1gig of XMS ram and his mobo is a Abit IC7 series Intel chipset. He has a MSI 5950FX card which will run BF2.

Problem: I formated his system last night since its been a year and a half since he last used it. Installed all the latest drivers,DX9c and updated the Mobo bios to Abits last release and that was in 2004. Now we launch BF2 and it just goes to a black screen and thats it. It worked once out of the 5 times i rebooted and launched it.

Only card he has in it is a Graphics card cause he use's the onboard sound and Nic.

Ive been searching all the BF2 forums that i could find and none have the solution to this issue but i know its out there. If anybody had this issue and knew how to fix it please post up.

He dosnt wanna upgrade untill next year so he wants this fixed.

Things to look at...
1) did you change the video settings (resolution) in the config file? (bf2 doesn't like it too much)
2) maybe video drivers, latest isn't always the best.
3) PSU Maybe?!

other than that not sure what else it could be.

*set Res at 800X600 to start to i can change it in game.
*Ill try using the Drivers from the BF2 cd for the Vid card.
*PSU is 450 watts

If it didn't start any of times I was thinking it might be a problem with playing the introduction videos, even though it isn't I would still rename all of them to .backup.

What's the video card? That's the problem 12038208x in most game situations.

he only has a GF5950FX that should run in low settings, It is set at 800x600 the last time i opened the game. I removed all the vids as well.

I swapped his MSI 5950FX card for my old BFG5950FX that i had in storage and it worked fine. Now he can play.
