I’m buying it, even though it has problems which have more or less plagued BF2 since launch it’s still a pretty fun game all in all.

Some things that I can think off hand:

Servers still toss up the “There’s a problem with your connection” error and you get the boot, not often but it still happens.

Performance issues which appear to be related to their stat servers, the demo has been facing disconnect issues from the master server since day two of the demo, this also seems to be causing jerkyness during play sometimes. It’ll be smooth for awhile right when you join a server then gradually start to get more “laggy” till finally the “problem with connection” starts to pop up followed by master server kicking you. This has gotten better but the lag/jerky gameplay issue is still there. They say their “fixing” this on their side.

People can still glitch into buildings and kill all day long without you being able to take them out, there’s a few other exploits, one allows people to shoot others through the walls on the titan and another is glitching an air transport vehicle “inside” the rear Titan hanger by flying through the bottom of the Titan somehow. There’s collision detection issues on some of the buildings, in the demo there’s a center silo with spire like structures surrounding it, you can land an air transport above it on thin air, switch to the gunner seat and own anyone down below.

Animation/control issue with mechs, sometimes they start to skate and stop their walk animation.

When you’re doing battle on the titan and the commander has issued a move order everything slides all over the place, it’ll be impossible to use some of the unlocks on a moving titan. I have a feeling they’re going to patch the game so that when the shields go down (and you can board the titan) the titan won’t be able to be moved any more.
Some servers have set an arbitrary “Move the Titan and get banned” rule.

Then there’s in game ads, billboards, shipping containers and wall posters will have ads retextured on them dynamically. They’ll be still images and no audio accompanying them but they’re also going to track if you looked at an ad, which one and how long etc. they say this reporting is anonymous and only your IP is logged. This upsets some more than others, it doesn’t thrill me but I don’t think there’s any stopping it – as time goes on it’ll probably get worse too.

Other issues some have had which I haven’t, crashing to the desktop (demo hasn’t crashed on me once), keybinding issues (people who want to use right mouse button for forward ???), issues with their sound card, some have had lighting problems though I think it only happens on “low” lighting setting.

Some people call it a “mod” but I think of it more as Battlefield Lite, they stripped out the air vehicle superiority so one guy can’t zip around the map bombing people, Titan mode doesn’t have artillery strikes for the commander. If you want to critique the content you’re getting two less maps and one entire army is missing compared to BF2’s US, MEC and China armies. Here it’s only EU and PAC with ten maps. They stripped away some of the base abilities players had in BF2 and made them unlocks, things such as defibulator, c4, claymores, grenades, rifle for spec-ops (4 unlocks to get), smoke grenades, ability to repair, heal and resupply while inside a vehicle.

Burnt biscuits? What’s there to like? It’s still sandbox mode of gameplay where you can go prone on a distant hill and snipe people or grab a jeep and run them over, just like BF2, the change of scenery is cool if you’re into the post apocalyptic theme of the game, no lush green grassy hills and bubbling fountains with flowers in the trees here. The kit divisions enforce a little more specialization, I think you’ll see people probably pick two kits as their favorites and stick with them (it doesn’t get hard rank wise till you’re some twenty unlocks in). Once they work out the kinks the Titan battles will be fun. No more air superiority, goodie. Got to love the lack of endless artillery strikes by moron commanders. It’s going to be a long dry stretch till something better comes along, Crysis, UT2007, Armed Assault, Quake Wars are all next year sometime. (ArmA might actually make it this year but only to select European countries so it would be an expensive import, that is if it has English included on the install disc for say Czech version)

After playing the demo for a bit and not seeing enough improvements from beta I am going to hold off on buying the game. They haven't proved that the game on release will have the fixes needed to remove the common large issues.

Also most people that I would play with have decided not to get the game after playing the demo.

yea doggie hit most of the problems and ive encountered almost all those glitches. I encountered the lighting one and omg dont combine medium and low lighting settings and presto no more problems. Most of the glitches other than the disconnects and warping into boxes arent problems in the true sense. I like the idea with the unlocks and the fact that the first 20 of them will go quickly which means you can specialize one track in all 4 classes or completely spec out two classes. I like the vehicles and game play speed alot better than bf2 and i think weapons are alot more viable in 2142.
I just wish i new how well the sentry turrets will work as thats sort of an old favorite from team fortress days.

Best Buy screwed up big time, they sent out emails to everyone who pre-ordered that the game was delayed till 11/21.

Everyone canceled including me, doubtful that they’ll charge for the flash drive that was offered as part of the pre-order deal.

I’m not as concerned about the in-game ad bullshit as I am of reports that people are getting kicked by the master server after playing for five minutes.

I’m sort of shocked at the reaction to the whole ads thing, I was floored when I saw all the billboards and wall signs in the beta but nobody seemed to think it was that big of deal.

Its a whole new game with the unlocks.

Trust me.

Im focusing on support atm. My current setup has the Shotgun, Shield, Nades, Motion detector, and heavy armor. I go on a titan, start scanning for shit, then pop out and bust people in teh head with my shotty. The motion detector gives the red box indicator for any enemies in a 50ft radius (varies alot). his gets sent to all your squad mates (my boys wiht the MG's defending the core). It really turns into a blood bath since Im taking out alot in the forward cargo bay, and my squad mates know who's coming at all times.

At first, I thought the shield would be campy. But with a little creative placement, you can make a very mean position when defending corners and such. The trick is to limit the enemies visibility, but stay out in the open and away from possible nade or missle blasts.

The maps seem a little hurried or un-strategic, unlike BF2. Im almost sure, however, that its cause Im nto familiar with them. Once everyone grasps the intracacies of each map, we'll start to see some advanced strats and fairly competitive matches. Like Mashtuur city or that other desert one.

That didn't work for me... trying to play in 1280x1024 (native rez for my monitor)

I got mine from the downloader though so i had to modify what you put a little but the shortcut works, just doesn't change the rez.

Recon is pretty fun. Haven't tried the assault rifle unlock on it, but I do have the sniper unlock. I'm not too sure what the difference between it and other rifles are. Supposedly it's good against lightly armored vehicles, but it's not. :-|

But I love sniping in this game. Sniping was pure shit in BF2. It feels a lot better now.
