Friday evening, the effort by Senate Majority Leader Frist and others who seek the restriction on Internet gambling in the United States has been successful.
Internet gambling language was included in the Conference Report on H.R. 4954, the SAFE Port Act. This legislation's main focus is on port security.

Both chambers have cleared the port legislation, effectively meaning the Internet gambling legislation will be sent to the President for signature. He will sign this bill.
The Senate used a procedural measure to unanimously accept the port legislation immediately upon passage by the House. So, you will not see a recorded vote by the Senators on this matter. The House has now passed the bill by an overwhelming margin, 405-2.
