soundcard issue

I'm using a SB Live! 24 bit soundcard. I believe the drivers are OEM. I'm running XP sp1.

The problem manifests itself whenever I use winamp or windows media player for more than 2 or 3 minutes.

First I hear a "click" sound in my headphones and then my computer completely locks up. I have checked for device conflicts, there are none apparently. I have checked the card's status and it appears to be working correctly.

I recently bought new headphones but I dont see what if anything that would have to do with the card. I've also had a problem in months past (that has since gone away) where the card would uninstall itself at random.

Any insights?

How about getting a new sound card? The Live! is ancient. Try finding something made at least within the current millenium...

Make sure the card is seated correctly. Maybe worked its way loose?

- Make sure it's the card (take it out, enable on board sound, put card in another computer if possible)
- Update to latest drivers (www.creative.com (http://us.creative.com/support/downloads/download.asp?MainCategory =1&nRegionFK=&nCountryFK=&nLanguageFK=&sOSName=Windows+XP&region=1&Product_Name=Live%21+24-bit&Product_ID=10315&modelnumber=&driverlang=1033&OS=10&drivertype=0&x=37&y=5))

Are you using the latest versions of Win Amp and Windows Media Player?? If you are, the conflict may be cause you are still at SP1...
