Hang after logging in (windows xp)

Right after I boot up my laptop and log in to Windows XP Pro, it appears to hang. It plays the windows start up sound but I have to press enter to continue loading to the desktop. It's really annoying and I can't figure out what the problem is...

any ideas?

(I know I'm supposed to include more system specs but I figured this was a simple problem that has nothing to do with my hardware)

My initial guess is that a startup program is displaying a popup off screen.

Have you tried looking through the event log to see what is happening?

you were right! (sort of) :)

so, I pressed alt+space to bring up the "Move" option then moved my mouse around and this dialog shows up. It was trying to reconnect a network drive.
