You may want to see if you have StarForce infected.. erm.. "installed" on your system. It's known to degrade burner performance over time.

StarForce detection: (http://www.boycottstarforce.net/?page_id=6)
Primary Method
Right-click My Computer. Select Properties. (Alternatively, you can go to System from the Control Panel).
Click the Hardware tab. Click Device Manager.
Go to View –> Show Hidden Devices.
Now look for Non-Plug and Play Drivers and click the + next to it to expand it.
Scroll down the list and if you see anything that contains the name Starforce in it. If so, you can find instructions to remove it here (http://www.boycottstarforce.net/?page_id=7).
Alternate Method
There have been reports that some versions of Starforce now do not show up in the Device Manager. In this case, there is an alternate method of detection (these instructions are meant for Windows XP).
Make sure you have view hidden files enabled in case. To do so, open a folder or My Computer and go to Tools -> Folder Options -> View. In the Advanced Options, select “Show hidden files and folders.”
Go to your Windows folder. Then open the system32 folder inside it and the drivers folder inside that. (a.k.a. go to %SystemRoot%\system32\dri vers\ for more advanced users)
Look for .sys files like sfsync, sfhlp or sfdrv in the drivers folder. The files may have numbers in their name, but it makes no difference. If you find them, Starforce is installed on your computer.
thanks for the replies you guys. so far ive only noticed it on cd-r's.
i did indeed change brands of media recently. memorex i think. that could be it. hell they take twice as long to burn. it says it finished burning at 8x i think. seems like it used to burn at quite a bit more than that.
ill check for the presence of that... thing... as well
thanks again.
none of that shit is in my drivers folder
maybe its just shitty memorex
