Guitar Rig 2 and asio4all (makes normal sound cards act like low-latency ones)

I just managed to convince my brother to give Guitar Rig a shot, and it seems quite impressive. He doesn't have the money for fancy hardware and has even been using a cheap headset microphone to record audio, so this is a nice step up.

It is OFN, but this wasn't posted before: couple it with asio4all, which lets just about any sound card act like a fancy low latency one, and it works very nicely. After activating asio4all, just go into Guitar Rig's options and change the output to ASIO. Voila.

Since I'm not a big music person: is there any other software like this?

(Please excuse me if this post is generally poorly written: I seem to enjoy posting when I'm half asleep)

how much did he pay for the guitar rig software, and did he get the foot pedal?

got a buddy here at work - former sound engineer (claim to fame: he once mixed Angus Young) and guitarist who is in love with the thing. He picked up a fancy-schmancy sound card off ebay for it though, no asio4all.

I've been meaning to look into it myself, too.. might do so now that I've got my new computer together.

After using a few guitar amp emulators I'd say the Waves plug is the best, Guitar rig is #2.

Now, it should stand to reason that they all suck compared to the real thing. You'll never get a real sounding guitar tone with an emulator, they all sound like a shitty BOSS pedal to me.

ASIO4All is good but buggy. I've had a few crashes that about took everything down.

wtf, why can't I edit my posts?

Other software:
Waves
Amplitude
There are a few others, but they generally all suck. They're all way too noisy and lack a serious tube sounding crunch. But they're better than nothing.

Also, since I can't edit:

Get your hands on the Waves SSL plugins and run them on the audio channel after your run the guitar software. They're about the best VSTs out there.

asio4all is definitely nice. I used it to get all the outputs of my soundcard enabled properly for dj traktor studio.

The footpedal is interesting but I'm already using M-Audio's Firewire Solo with Pro Tools. I was using CuBase but it was a "temp loaner."
