What the fuck.

Pulled the hard drive out of a machine that wasnt working, and would hang xp install at the 'inspecting hardware' and tried it in 2 seperate machines. Nothing.

It would show up in bios, but not in disk management.

Slap it into a hard drive enclosure and it works just fine..

Reformat it in the 'enclosure'(external HD case), then try in the PC...

I did a surface scan, etc and no problems came up with it. It was noisy as hell, but worked. I'm going to pull the information off it and see what Maxtors disk checking tool says.

Maxtor generation Maxtor drives had high failure rates. It got to the point that at work we replaced almost all Maxtor drives that shipped in Dell, IBM, HP machines with Western Digital drives after drive failures.

Here's to hoping the new models after Seagate's purchase of Maxtor.
