so i'm returning a seagate harddrive that is still under warranty. the instructions specifically says no bubble wrap and i have to use foam rubber to pack it. is that true? i went to staples and they didn't have foam rubber packing....i also don't want to buy a whole bunch just for this HD. if i send it with bubble wrap, will they still send me a new HD?

they might void your warranty or something. the reason they don't want bubble wrap is because the stuff shifts around. you should've gotten the advanced replacement RMA. you secure the new hd with your credit card (no actual charge made, just a hold placed on the card) and when the new drive gets to you, you just take it out of the box and packing materials and put the old one in and send it back.

well the HD came with my shuttle, and the company i bought the shuttle from told me to send it to the manufacturer...so i didn't have much of an option there. i guess i have to drive around tomorrow looking for foam rubber :|

the manufacturer is whoever makes your hard drive. in order to send it back, you had to generate an RMA number, either through the website or by speaking to someone. there's an advanced replacement option somewhere. i've done it before with maxtor, western digital, ibm, and seagate so far.

yea the company i bought my pc from gave me the RMA
i just found the website where i'm supposed to buy my packaging materials from. what the fuck this shit is SO GAY. 16 dollars to deliver me a box with foam rubber and a ESD bag. :( then i have to fucking ship it to seagate. sigh.

16? wtf. just go to home depot and buy the stuff. it's just foam insulation, should be cheap.

go to a local computer store and just ask them nicely if they have a spare. they should have an assload just lying around.

i've also had trouble finding anti-static bags. i'm guessing that's what ESD means
