Ug. So we had a freakin' blackout last night. You know what's spooky though? Everything hooked up to my APC BackUPS 500-ES was working fine except for my computer. Well, the monitor, printer, router, and cable modem were the only other things hooked up, but they were still working.
So my computer wouldn't boot at all this morning. I didn't have a little green light on my motherboard when I plugged the power supply directly into the wall *shudder*. I've still got the goosebumps over this. I was like "oh shit, bad mobo and maybe a bunch of other shit at worst, bad power supply at best"
So once I get over the initial shock (which took a while, I'm addicted to this damn thing too much for it to break), I pull the thing off of all its little doohickies, and try powering it up solo. Nothing. So then I pull it to my workbench (read: kitchen table), and pull the box open. I see a loose power connector to the mobo... I'm thinking it CAN'T be that simple!!!
So I plug it is and voila! Working computer I'm posting to TW from now. WTF? How on earth does a power cable with a plastic hook on it come loose at the exact same time as I have a blackout? WTF are the odds of that?
Anyways, main question is this: I'm running a 350W power supply (which may be a little on the low end for what I have hooked up to it)... the fan on the GPhx card has been making some low humming noises on and off for at least a few months now, and I keep checking it to make sure its still spinning, and it is... but could that be a sign of low power? This model NVidia GeForce 6600 AGP 256MB runs its fan directly off of a large 4-pin power connector.
Also, the Power Fan is now running at 1461 RPM... does that seem a little low to you guys? It's an Antec power supply... I thought they were supposed to be good? Can power fans run that low safely? Should I up myself from 350W?
Power usage (350W):
- AMD Athlon 1900+ CPU
- 1 CD-ROM
- 1 CD-RW / DVD-R
- 1 10,000 RPM Hard Drive
- 1 Soundblaster Live Drive for Audigy 2 ZS
- 1 Zip 100 Drive (I could / should prolly pull this piece of nonsense, I never use it anymore)
- 1 Floppy Drive
- GeForce 6600 AGP 256MB + Fan
- SoundBlaster Audigy 2 ZS
- 10/100 Network Card
- 4-port USB 2x Expansion Card
- 3 other internal fans (2 case, 1 CPU)
- 3 Miscellaneous USB devices w/o external power (Card Reader, Mouse, Keyboard)
