It's a real pain in the ass, and I imagine anyone who has actually gotten that rank without the help of a roomate/sibling or someone who lives near them pretty much has no life.
I have had a tough time ranking and I don't even go out that much. On my server three people have gotten 3 day suspensions for account sharing in getting to HWL. One got GM anyway, the two others are close. Seems they're trying to keep a lid on it, but the rating system is so stupid I kind of think the guys that are sharing are just doing what anyone would do to still have a life and get rank. If you aren't cheating you aren't trying I guess.
In my opinions the only stupid ass part of the system is that you get competition from EVERYONE on the server, so some random rank 9 with too much time on his hands for two weeks can keep you from getting HWL for close to a month. The amount of decay as you get up in the ranks is kind of rediculous, but not totally stupid. And it's all about the weekends sadly.
On Stag, a few people got 3-day bans. A few days later three of them got perma-banned for alegedly using a leveling service.

JohnnyX 07-19-2006, 04:58 PM Oh yeah, there is also a guy who has some sort of bot/macro set up on the Horde side.
Goes by the name SoulReaper on Gorg, he will zone into a BG, then run into the tunnel and run into a wall there for a few minutes. If he's killed he'll afk at the GY, sometimes casting ice armor, etc. I MC'd him trying to fear him out of the zone, and he started running into the mountains at the edge.
Total bot/afk script and he's gotten incredible standings doing it.
premiumnya 07-19-2006, 06:57 PM i had people help me get to rank 14, and i got a lot of shit for it plus a 3 day ban. it felt really good overcoming the ban and getting rank 14 earlier than the assholes who reported me. i never understood why people took pride in doing it solo, all it meant was that you have no job, no school, no life, no friends or fam to help you along. people mistakenly think that if everyone just did it solo, that it woudl be easier to get hwl, and that couldnt be further from teh truth.
sekdar 07-19-2006, 08:36 PM Here on Dunelawl we have soft honor caps. Every week the PVPers decide on an arbitrary number that pug players can't achieve without a group, and scale it accordingly. Right now its 575k a week for standing 1. GM in 2 months or whatever.
Next patch Blizzard is allowing more people into the higher ranks, but I don't think they mentioned anything about the terrible RP decay rate that rapes people so very hard.

It's impossible to remove decay without completely changing the formulas.
The system uses a rolling average, it just looks like an added decay from the outside.
Error|550 07-19-2006, 09:00 PM F'ing double post ... :(

For my investment of time and money in the game:
PvP faction rep rewards > PvP rank rewards
Sure, some of the rank 14 items are pretty nice, but the end-game instance rewards/drops trump anything you'll get from PvP rewards.
IMO, yet another example of how broken PvP is in WoW ...
And don't even get me started with how gimped crafted items are ...

Dennis 07-20-2006, 04:35 AM The rank 14 stuff is still pretty amazing compared to anything pre-naxx which is sometimes more attainable for a person, but remember the weapons were by far the best for almost a full year.

I agree, however the grind to make it to rank 14 is a HUGE mountain to climb for anyone who has a life outside of the game.
StarZ 07-22-2006, 03:42 PM have a question.. my level 60 warlock is rank 1 (about 70%) what is the highest rank i can reach this week? i hear some people say that rank 1-6 there is no cap as long as you earn enough honor but then some people tell me it is capped at 1.5 ranks per week
Climax 07-22-2006, 08:48 PM Rank 4, you are capped at 3 rank ups a week
