Dangerdoggie 07-05-2006, 07:51 PM Road to Jalalabad is sort of cool, I don't think it's a Karkand killer but they really need to tone down that constant wind noise, I'll go freak'n deaf playing that map if they don't, they also have way too many crickets chirping in the background, it's like one is stuck in your ear or something. Between the wind and the crickets I wanted to shoot myself after playing a couple of rounds.
Once again we have a push map though, just like Karkand (The US get a non cap while the MEC get to be raped). It's a frantic street brawl with 64 players.
All the beta servers are based out of the UK right now, you can't tell if you're weapon isn't registering hits because of a bug or if it's just lag.
I think it's still buggy though,a few times I clicked on the Join Server button and I CTD, sometimes it wouldn't connect to the server at all and said there's a problem with your network connection, even got the boot with the message "your connection to the server has been lost" I don't know if the server reset/crashed or not.
Theta 07-05-2006, 11:29 PM I'll pass.
HypnosisFX 07-06-2006, 10:19 AM Here are some opinions about the beta that tells a thing or two about patch 1.4. Most of the things my friends and I have seen are not welcomed. Here are the details:
A. INF MODE
Making an INF mode is very simple. You take the maps you already have and remove all the vehicles, the commander mode (should be a server side option) and the stationary weapons (option) and puf! There you have it! An infantry mode! But no, you guys decided to create, change and edit things beyond what is needed. The final result is a very bad mode that we can’t call a worthy infantry mode. The whole idea in an infantry mode is that the rounds will contain the infantry gameplay as it is, but will be clean of vehicles (ANY VEHICLE!) and commander mode (in an ideal condition). Moreover, the new changes in the infantry scene ruin the entire idea even more.
For your convenience, here are our complaints regarding the infantry mode in short points and our suggestions:
– 3 hand grenades are needed to kill a player when they explode next to him. 1 grenade exploding in close distance to the player should kill.
– 2 c4s are needed in order to kill a player. Only one c4 exploding in medium-close range to a person should kill him.
– 2 medpacks are required healing a person completely. 1 medpack should be enough to heal a person completely.
– 2 stabbings with knife needed to kill a person. Only a single stab should kill a person.
– Four grenade (launched by a grenade launcher) rounds needed to kill a person. One should be enough to kill a guy.
– Four M16 rounds in the head are needed to kill a person. 1 or 2 M16 rounds in the head (we prefer 1) should be enough to kill a person.
* These problems’ source is the increased health points (hp) given to every player. His hps should be reduced to what they were before.
Additional problems in the infantry mode:
– After healing a player he gets a new kit instead of his old one which stays on the ground. So why do you need the support class when you are getting supplied with ammo this way? Ammo packs not needed. A player shouldn’t get a new kit, and must use his old one, or a one that is near him instead.
– The support class was especially overpowered. It’s power should be reduced. (see a note in part “B”)
– *** Infantry mode suppose to give BF2 players to play infantry only (no vehicles, infantry only!). Why are there vehicles in infantry mode? |:
B. Infantry Gampley
Since patch 1.2 Dice is continuously changing and nerfing down the options which the infantry can use in order to overcome his other infantry opponent. As we wrote, it has began with patch 1.2 after which the infantry players could not “bunny hop” or “c4 choke”. Some players liked the change while others didn’t. The larger part of the community adapted to this change. Patch 1.3 introduced the end of “squad hopping” which has made the infantry gameplay and the game at a whole very fast ones, and tactically smarter. After its removal the game has become slower and got closer to games like CS or ET. Even though the patches took those elements off the game, the infantry players who kept playing the game (a lot left) used the “pron spamming” – a so called exploit which allowed a player to switch from crouching to proning and standing very fast. It gave some color to the game, and the infantry gameplay remained acceptable, but this beta shows that Dice is on a road to nerf BF2’s infantry gameplay to something like CS with nerfed squad abilities, spawns, conquest mode (flags), vehicles and a commander mode. We played infantry in this beta, and we must say that it is boring and has a boring CS-style, not a unique BF style. Moreover, some requests from the pro communities were turned down (like the making of the squad-hopping server sided). Dice claims that the changes were made so cooperation among players in servers will become better, but teamwork wasn’t improved – not in clan matches (the pro/clan community) nor in public servers.
Here are our main complaints in short points.
– Prone spam removed so players can’t dodge enemy fire properly (now you must crouch-shoot in order to survive = CS). It should be reintroduced to the game.
– The prone-stand switch wasn’t reintroduced to the game. The ability to switch from prone to standing position should be faster and more efficient as it was prior to 1.2. It was good in the past, and made no trouble. The “dolphin diving” should be nerfed in another way.
– The support class is overpowered. It should be as it appears in 1.3.
– 3 medpacks per medic. We don’t recall a big part of the community asking for this change (or indeviduals) and we are involved in community forums. This is a bad change that should be reverted.
– Claymores still remain intact after using grenades/explosives on them. This should be fixed so claymores will be destroyable.
– Snipers can’t pick up claymores up. They should be able to.
– Engineers can’t unarm claymores. They should be able to.
– Squad hopping wasn’t reintroduced. Squad hopping has made the gameplay a very fast one and very tactically superior to other first person shooters. It was amazing in clan matches, and must return for the sake of the clan community, at least as a server sided option. Please, we asked for it before and we ask for it again. PLEASE bring it back!
– Grenades (launched from grenade launchers) bounce when hitting players or vehicles. They don’t have to hit solid objects In order to explose.
– Claymores + mines should blow friendly players as well as foes, and when the “friendly fire” option is off, they should blow anyhow (not damaging the sniper’s team mates though).
C. Road to Jalalabad
This map was badly made. The community was promised that it will be another “strike at karkand” map (fast fights and close quarter combat) but it is too big and too “open” to be another “strike at karkand”.
D. Chopper
The chopper’s rockets’ (not the TV guided missiles) count was reduced in 1.2 without anyone asking it to be reduced. Turning it back to what it was before that patch would be ideal.
E. Ranked Servers
In this beta the enabling of unlocked weapons in ranked servers is enforced. Not all ranked servers must be flooded with the unlocked weapons. We ask you to allow us to run ranked servers which do not enable the use of unlocked weapons.
F. Vehicle Drop
We didn’t ask for this option before, and some of us still don’t want it. Other just don’t really care about it. Please remove it.
F. Good things
- We hadn’t experienced crashes to desktop nor server crashes in the beta. Nice work there.
– No bugs detected.
– Map loading time improved drastically.
– Vehicle drop was weakened.
To sum things up, this game is being changed too much. Every month it is a new game. Now it seems that the game is moving towards games like CS, which are gray and boring in our opinions. We ask you to remove most of the changes made in the infantry scene (not all, only a few), bring back the squad hopping into the game, make special versions of the maps in the game so they will fit infantry only combat (we have managed to edit the game’s files and make it a server sided mode. You guys can make it a whole new maps) and fix some things here and there.
We truly hope that this time this patch will actually improve the game in all ways instead of nerfing it down towards CS. We are very tired of the changes made in the infantry scene that originated in pub players who can’t dodge bullets and don’t accept their bullets to be dodged by other players. If you won’t do the right thing now you will lose the clan community and many costumers for future games like 2142. Please act according to our needs for once. Thanks for listening.

Dangerdoggie 07-06-2006, 02:08 PM I sort of agree with that, I still thing light vehicles would be welcome in a Infantry focused mode just because some of the maps are a real pain to walk around on foot.
“pron spamming” – a so called exploit which allowed a player to switch from crouching to proning and standing very fast. It gave some color to the game, and the infantry gameplay remained acceptable
uh, I think I hate prone spamming more than bunny hopping, they left in the jump, prone, shoot method of diving down with your gun to get a fast kill even though they said they were going to add a deviation to the first shots fired when you did this, I'd like to see this gone as well.
Grief 07-06-2006, 03:36 PM I wanted to slam my forehead into my keyboard over and over after reading that long whine.
DeadlyRabbit 07-06-2006, 03:53 PM I will just wait for the official patch, no big loss to me I haven't played the game in probably a month.
Every patch they try to restrict the gameplay more and more. EA needs to be reminded that they are making video games. Their restrictions are going to see fall into the area of only people with very similar hardware are going to be allowed on a server together.
HypnosisFX 07-07-2006, 12:09 AM yeah i havnt installed yet and not going too untill i see official release fix's.
Dangerdoggie 07-07-2006, 12:17 AM It was 3 gigs of HD space to make a quick backup of my 1.3 BF2 install, checking out the new map was worth it, I offered some feedback even though I doubt it'll be used.
Theres a handful of US servers now so that's cool.
0AvEnGeR0 07-07-2006, 03:15 AM you forgot to mention the invincible medic in infantry mode
as long as the medic keeps his shock paddles out he cannot be killed other than a direct hit by a sraw/enyx (AT rocket)
dunno why this happens but it apparently does....

how did you do it cause i tried this morning and it still wouldnt patch for me.
Dangerdoggie 07-07-2006, 02:28 PM I just did like the readme said, made a copy of BF2 install folder, ran the incremental patch and well, that's it. If I want to switch back to 1.3 I just rename the 1.4 install (betafield) and then rename the (copy of) folder back to (Battlefield 2) so my shortcuts link back to the proper folder name.
You could also just create new shortcut links like this example (http://forum.eagames.co.uk/viewtopic.php?t=25940&sid=0d1b3b5849b019f54bff8 24326d055f5), if the patch fails for you maybe you got a bad download? have plenty of free space on your system drive?
This is the patch I used

That is in the new infantry only mode and it's screwed up, Colin Clarke said in the video it was alpha, alpha, alpha and he also mentioned the way they made your health 2x what it is normally, they also messed around with the way the weapons worked, 4 hits from a sniper rifle, 2 packs of c4 and something like 4 grenades, 2 knife stabs to kill you etc. (Individually not collectively lol), you can jump off of a three story building and walk away from it (from full health down to having about 1/4th left). Add to that 30 second respawn timers (so medics don't have to rush in and revive you, plus it takes 2 medic packs to heal 100%).
There are absolutely no vehicles in maps except for the tiny boats on some maps and a slight boost in stamina so you can sprint longer. Nobody is going to really give it a try though because like you said there’s a bug where if you hold out your shock paddles you’re invincible. Though they’re waffling on if they’ll allow it to be ranked I’m not really interested in playing Infantry++ because it would screw you up to go back into vanilla BF2 after playing the “cyborg” version.
This was some idiot’s wild idea of a good time; all people really wanted was a chance to play the game without the heavy armor spawn killing everyone and jets bombing the shit out of them, not to mention the never ending artillery raining down. So many assholes think that it’s the above crap that makes Battlefield 2 what it is, 85% of the game is about being a soldier in a squad, humping it from flag to flag, they’ve focused just about every booster and expansion on armor or attack choppers in one way or another, I’d like to see something given to the people who enjoy the infantry combat that’s in the base game, not this goofy shit they came up with. Light vehicles only and transport choppers, I wouldn’t care if artillery was left in or not, but hopefully not and leave the combat the way it is in regular BF2. Oh and anyone who says just go play Counterstrike can go fuck themselves, that game sucks ass.
The people who are so against this idea are the plane whores and armor sluts that think an infantry based mode will take away from the number of servers they’ll have to play on and leave them victimless, splits the so called community into fragments etc. Just a bunch of overreacting bullshit, I still go back an forth between playing city maps and ones with armor all the time. You want to see a mass exodus from BF2, wait till Quake Wars is released or even BF2142 for that matter, some will probably even switch to the uber realistic Armored Assault game if BIS can pull off their multiplayer plans (128 player persistent game to take over an entire island)
/rant over.
Theta 07-07-2006, 03:11 PM You want to see a mass exodus from BF2, wait till Quake Wars is released or even BF2142 for that matter
I hope QuakeWars crushes BF2142. I don't know why people that played BF2 would consider buying BF2142 with all of the problems in bf2.
Dangerdoggie 07-07-2006, 06:02 PM I’m not sold on the hype surrounding Quake Wars, yes they did an awesome job on Enemy Territory but there’s a lot of unknowns and can they pull it offs, they’re in a damned if you do and damned if you don’t position, make it too much like Battlefield and people will bitch, not enough.. and well you get the idea.
For the most part I don’t have many problems with BF2, I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve encountered the infamous red/blue bug, I avoid using the built in server browser entirely and just use shortcuts to join servers, even with the servers crashing in 1.3 it’s still playable long enough to last a few rounds. I like the sandbox mode of play, the freedom to choose being a sniper if I want to even if half the team is already a sniper too. If Quake Wars tries to spread people out among different spots by limiting class selection it’ll turn me off from playing it completely.
I’ve been wanting to play a version of Mech + Soldiers way back when Starsiege was released, I never bought into the claim by dynamix for not allowing foot soldiers onto the same battlefield as Mechs, saying they couldn’t balance the gameplay, they were just too lazy and bullheaded to mix Tribes with Starsiege, screw the conflicts of storylines and crap like that.

Total 07-16-2006, 05:07 AM sounds like the BF franchise is still busy noobing the game down.
3 frags to kill someone?
sheesh. And I thought the amount of nobbing they did with the 1.2 patch in BF:V was too much.
beta 2 supposedly got rid of the additional health but retained the 2x sprint.
so they'll prolly get something different but as retarded for the final version
brakums 07-16-2006, 09:20 PM Beta 2
Road to Jalalabad
- Tickets adjustements
- Removal of 1 US tank to help address balance issues.
No Vehicles Option
- Added a new Server Browser Filter option for No Vehicles
- Return Health to default BF2 level
- Return Medic pack and Revive values to Default BF2
- Default spawn times to Default BF2 setting.
- No Vehicles is now a ranked server option!
We kept:
- Keep the current sprint bar setting (I.e. 2x sprint)
- Keep the current Vehicle exclusion list (i.e. we are not introducing light jeeps etc, just keeping the boats on Carrier levels).
ReaListik 07-17-2006, 10:42 AM I stopped playing infantry quite a while ago so this patch won't affect me at all.
I'll continue going 50-0 every round in my J10 :)
Dangerdoggie 07-17-2006, 08:20 PM They removed a static mesh from Road to Jalalabad, a U.S. plane stuck in the side of a building, too many 911 comments.
as soon as people found out that the beta servers weren't tracking their points everyone quit playing on them, and they're going to do an open beta of BF2142 - okay, sure thing. Number 1 stuipd question will be : Do my points earned while playing the beta carry over to retail?
