I'm moving from the Springfield MA area to Seattle. I leave on the 8th (start work there on the 19th).

Google maps says: 2,978 mi (about 2 days 2 hours)

I'm thinking I can do a 1,000 miles a day on average. Unreasonable assumption?

I drove 1000 miles all the time back and forth from college. Straight shot, but I wouldn't want to do it two days in a row.

I would plan on 4-5 days of travel time, leave early in the morning and drive till like 8 or 9 at night. But don't go crazy, especially driving by yourself, I would take it easy.

assuming you do an average of 70MPH, that's 14 hours of driving per day. if i were by myself i would not want to do that trip.

If you're really smart you'll take a plane and ship your car.

uh, yeah. i would go along the lines of around 500-600 miles tops

edit: and if you are going alone i would advise not driving at night

You can easily cover 800 or so miles in a day including a few stops & lunch, but it's a very very long day. I wouldn't want to push more than that.

I think I'll go for a strong opening day and then take it easy. Leave early in the morning and see how far I get. This is going to be some trip, I wonder how far along into it I go crazy.

Actually you should do it the other way around. If you do 1000 in day one you'll be exhausted by Day 2. If you do 600-700 for the first few days you'll probably be fine with a 12 hour push on the last day.

dmaul and I drove from port jervis ny to columbus oh and back in a day, I did all the driving. I think it was ~1100 miles total. Was not so bad, and we stopped for a few hours in columbus before heading back. Straight-shot, 1000 miles/day for three days is not unreasonable.

two people is an entirely different world than one person, even if one of the two does all the driving.

Don't listen to these people.

1. Get in car
2. Start driving
3. Keep driving
4. Drive until your tired
5. Find a hotel
6. Go back to step one, unless your at your destination.

1,000 miles in a day is nothing.

Ive done 3500 miles twice. Takes about ~5 days, 4 days if you push and have a few drivers. I'm doing it again in about 3 weeks.

If you're a real man, you'll do it with one CD set on repeat the entire time.

36 hours straight
2 drivers, non-stop

1,000 miles a day is not that hard

i reccommend that you get up very early, and drive until its night, drink a bit of coffee, drive another 1-2 hours, and sleep for a long time, and then just drive as far as you can the next day, but dont try to wake up early and ****
