Evasi0n 05-20-2006, 07:07 AM With the expansion looming on the horizon, I’m planning on returning to the game. I really like the direction Blizzard is taking, and their acknowledgement of their early misdirection which was the main reason I left. I still keep up with the game and consider myself very knowledgeable about the mechanics, but I haven’t actually played in almost a year.
Considering I was previously a priest in an end-game guild, I’m definitely rolling a DPS class, which limits me to rogues, mages, or hunters, as I’m sure fury warriors will be nerfed in the near future in terms of pure DPS in a PvE setting. I’m just curious as to which class people consider “enjoyable” (however vague a question that is)? For me, enjoyable consists of an involving play style (aka, not paladin-style), a decent amount of adaptability, and utility to those I play with. This is all end-game too, considering that’s where 99% of your time is spent.
Just tossing some questions out there. Not looking for answers so much as opinions to give me an idea of how some class mechanics have changed from when I last played (pre-BWL).
Smaqaho 05-20-2006, 08:22 AM Most of our rogues rerolled warrior or hunter so I'm pretty sure that's not the route to go if you're looking for a fun and exciting DPS class.
For the most part, the most "involved" role you can get in a raid setting is the main tank, and that really depends on the fight. Overall every class has a button-mashing role, with certain fights that they stand out in.
The excitement from raiding comes from everyone executing fairly simple tasks, and executing them perfectly. Sometimes the excitement comes from a few people making mistakes but defeating the encounter in spite of them. If raiding were done solo with 39 other bots programmed to do their job perfectly, it would be boring as hell.
My advice to you is to pick the class you think you'd have the most enjoyable time levelling to 60 (or 70, in this case). If you like to PvP, you should use that as a deciding factor too. It won't matter what class you play if you burn out before you hit 60 or because you can't stand doing nothing but raiding.

what acknowledgement of early misdirection??
Gringo 05-20-2006, 09:22 AM I've liked rogues, it's been my first and, mostly, only character.
Slobax 05-20-2006, 11:53 AM rogue is simple fun in pvp - it's the one class i dominate top of BG boards with every single match
Hunters can be reallllly fun (and annoying to others) in pvp, but the micromanagment on a hunter really irks me. If it's not pet food you forgot to buy while in town, it's arrows.
uh why do you think fury warriors will be nerfed
Calder 05-20-2006, 01:21 PM Hunters are very fun, and very easy to level.
TseTse 05-20-2006, 03:23 PM Hunter, hunter, hunter.
With a handful of key addons all the annoying aspects vanish and it's raw fun.
Surge 05-20-2006, 03:27 PM hunter, rogue, lock, warrior
Black 05-20-2006, 03:46 PM Warrior.
Hands down the most fun class in the game.
Surge 05-20-2006, 04:35 PM Warrior.
Hands down the most fun class in the game.
agreed
forget who posted it here, but they said warrior is the worst "fresh" 60 and i'll have to agree, but once you get past that new gimp 60 phase warrior is the shit
floorpunching 05-21-2006, 01:14 AM uh why do you think fury warriors will be nerfed
they already supposedly changed flurry to proc off white damage only.
Swamp Kitten 05-21-2006, 01:29 AM Fury war, hunter, lock...not neccessarily in that order
I lucked out with my hunter and picked up a rockin guild so I have a great time rawrrr
scandal 05-21-2006, 03:07 AM Btw, don't do mage.
Gringo 05-21-2006, 08:55 AM Btw, don't do mage.
Our guild has a terrible time of keeping mages. Even when they get decked, they can't do the damage they'd like or just they just dropped like rocks. Is there another reason not to? I just rolled a gnome mage for fun.
Calder 05-21-2006, 11:54 AM Mmn...
Mages are sorta fun, but in the end when you raid, it just comes down to spamming frostbolt (or the equivalent for your spec)
Pretty fun demolishing people in PvP though (when you get good gear)
But come next patch, I can definitely see a mage keeping up with rogues on DPS.

if 60% of a fury warriors dps is white damage then i don't see where this is hurting them
Shinigami 05-21-2006, 03:27 PM if 60% of a fury warriors dps is white damage then i don't see where this is hurting them
It's not...
Or shouldn't be. Fury warriors spam HS.
