Santa 05-03-2006, 03:25 AM barf Sir Lucius 05-03-2006, 03:27 AM mmorpgs are gear dependent -- so?? Ohhhhhhhh, you mean you want to play a balanced multiplayer game! I don't see how wow would be fun like that. It's eventually all starcraft build orders. I think something like tribes is what you're looking for. Rouailtagh 05-03-2006, 03:28 AM Welcome to 2003/2004. It's an MMORPG at it's core, of course the PvP will be as gear-dependent as it's RPG brothers. More like, "GJ Blizzard for throwing in PvP without properly researching/playtesting it before putting it in the game." FalseMyrmidon 05-03-2006, 05:24 AM You just figured this out? Dyno 05-03-2006, 05:38 AM I assume you play the hell out of the test server battlegrounds. TseTse 05-03-2006, 05:58 AM you think it would be better if pvp wasnt dependent on gear? look, skill and teamwork is still required in group pvp... but obviously gear matters. i think it would be disastrous and un-fun to have pvp that didnt support those who put time/effort to make their characters better. this is an RPG. "skill" implies abilities and character capabilities... which means stats, gear and all the nuances of the game. it would be rather boring and unpopular if you removed this differentiation and capability to improve your character. if you want raw "skill" based pvp in the sense of dueling TACTICS... then RPGs are likely to never satisfy you (which is the case for many people). Shoddy 05-03-2006, 08:35 AM See Guild Wars quiet storm 05-03-2006, 09:00 AM DAoC capped your weapon DPS at 16.5 and your stats at 300 but then again if you were several ranks above someone they would have no chance Rouailtagh 05-03-2006, 10:04 AM See Guild Wars Exactly. And while the lack of good PvE is a valid arugment I still think that, deep down, people want the gear to be superior. They want some kind of justification for the time they spent, because they don't want to be beaten by someone else on sheer skill alone. Santa 05-03-2006, 10:14 PM DAoC capped your weapon DPS at 16.5 and your stats at 300 but then again if you were several ranks above someone they would have no chance I was thinking this. I mean 16.5dps in wow is pitiful, but the cap could be pretty high. Its just the Tier 2 guys who come in and take forever to kill. I'm in a pvp guild on horde side and its just so imbalanced. PvP sets are ok, but it does get frustrating getting two shotted...or frostbolt critted for 4900. Climax 05-04-2006, 01:30 AM PVP is not gear dependant. Dennis 05-04-2006, 02:45 AM Wow is pretty damn fun and competetive to me, and sometimes it's just fun to own decked out people because skill does play a large role in real pvp. There are also some class imbalances and coming from someone that has had had 8 60s (all engineers), undead shadow priest are the most overpowered class in this game atm, to the extent that I got bored at how few skills I'd use and how easy it was. Some classes are just more fun than others. On the other hand, it's not going to be pretty when more people get there hands on the Dark Edge of Insanity. FalseMyrmidon 05-04-2006, 01:00 PM Warrior is a group pvp class not a solo one. Solo pvp as a warrior sucks. NeverSummer 05-04-2006, 01:07 PM Warrior is a group pvp class not a solo one. Solo pvp as a warrior sucks. True a warrior with a group or even just a healer can get pretty nuts... but I still enjoy playing my warrior solo. If you play right you can kick some serious ass. Surge 05-06-2006, 06:12 PM PVP is not gear dependant. sweet, let me know when you run into trinket mages, any warrior with an epic weapon, shamans, druids with more armor and damage mitigation than warriors, etc Ztir 05-06-2006, 07:21 PM pvp in wow is retarded so shut up GraphiX 05-06-2006, 08:17 PM See Guild Wars  i was thinking the same thing Sojourn 05-06-2006, 09:53 PM PVP is not gear dependant. Yes it is. An equally skilled player in good blues and greens will get absolutely -slaughtered- by a player in tier 2 gear. A highly skilled player might be able to overcome great gear, but only if the other person is terrible. By terrible I mean god awful. Sojourn 05-06-2006, 09:59 PM I was thinking this. Rouailtagh 05-06-2006, 10:01 PM Yes it is. An equally skilled player in good blues and greens will get absolutely -slaughtered- by a player in tier 2 gear. A highly skilled player might be able to overcome great gear, but only if the other person is terrible. By terrible I mean god awful. That or very terrible lag on the part of the other person. Lagging players usually means you can get a number of "free hits" on them as well as keeping them in range. That's probably less likely to happen, most people would most likely log and do something else than try to rep/honor grind in BGs with connection issues. | ||
