Many complaints I hear all over the place in WoW is a call to bring back "World PvP". Now last I checked, the only real changes they made was make all town NPCs civilians and implemented Dishonor and imposed punishments for it. This in effect halted all town raiding, a la the classic Tarren Mill/Hillsbrad feud. But most people make it sound a lot more than simply that.
So how do you define PvP since launch? And if it's not as you like, what could be done to make it to your liking?

you get such an absurd amount of cp from whoring battlegrounds and farming newb pug groups that there is no reason to pvp outside of the battlegrounds.
This makes all pvp repetitive and contrived.
Back in the day you would just have roaming gank squads and you never knew how things would unfold. It was a lot of fun. Like January to March of last year all i did was pvp before there was bgs. When the rankings came out I played for like a month and was always standing 1-15 then i dropped off because of a new job. When I came back that whole scene was gone and people were getting 10x as much cp for killign little dwarf monsters in alterac valley. It is silly.

Yeah, the guards didn't kill world PvP in the slightest -- BGs did. They were fun for the first week or so until the grind for honor/BG rep-related rewards began in earnest, and thus nobody bothers doing world PvP anymore because it's too sporadic, and as a result all the fun was drained from PvP at large. Sad, really.

agreed, i think the rewards for pvping and ranked based gear is good, to reward the winners etc, but i dont think there should be huge epics that drive people to grind to all day long in BG's. Also the BG's need to be more arena style and fewer contenders imo, basically take out the flags.

One interesting change someone proposed in the PvP forums was an "all or nothing" policy in BGs. Basically, in order to get honor you have to actually win the BG or you get no honor. While I would like to think that would potentially fix things, I know better and I am pretty certain if that happened people would find some kind of stupid workaround.

It's bad enough getting getting organized groups to fight in BG's. Just means they'd AFK out faster against another organized group.

Says a lot about our culture when people would rather do nothing than actually try.

Well thanks to stupid long queues, it's not so much trying as wasting time. If you're going for GM, there's no point sticking around to lose -- you might as well get back in the queue since it's going to be a while.

Well if you're on the otherside of it, it's more likely. I play alliance on an alliance heavy server. Typical BG queue times for me are 20 minutes on AB/WSG, about 40 to an hour on AV. AB isn't prone to the AFKing, although it has happened before. It happens all the time in WSG. We'll get together a guild group and queue up for 30 minutes only to get AFK'd on in less than 5. What do the horde care they have instaqueues, they send one person in, he checks who's in on the alliance side, if it's a guild group, they'll just rejoin the queue knowing they'll either lose or be dragged into a 30min+ game instead of a 6 minute romp. Same thing has happened in AB on occasion, 5-0 some pvp team and they'll AFK the rest of the night.
Some will actually fight you, but it's usually the the idiots who like to brag on the boards how they're rolling PUGs 3-0/5-0 in < 10 minutes but then AFK to every organized group on the server.
Apparently there's an alliance (no pun intended) of Alli and Horde on my server for faster rank gain now. They queue as group, go into WSG. 2 of them duel. Whoever wins gets to make all 3 scores. Members of the losing side must be repeatedly pummeled down over and over by each person on the winning side.

They had something similar like that on EldreThalas a la one of my friends in FL. Obviously you can make Horde and Alliance characters on the same server for Normal. So what her guild did was roll 5 Alliance and 5 Horde characters and whenever the wanted some BG action half would log onto their Horde characters and they'd all play in the same BG against each other. Of course sharing the same VoIP server didn't help the actual strategy but it did ensure there were never any queues.
