Ok folks, the time has finally come to let my baby go. First let me say that the reason I am selling is this since I own an exceptional antique, I am forced to own a backup car for bad weather. Unfortunately the backup car is a POS. Combine that wit the the fact that I have twin 15 year olds and you start to get the picture. The situation is too impractical and frankly I'm amazed my wife has put up with it for this long.

Anyway, here's the story:

1972 240Z as seen here on this crappy webpage (http://mywebpages.comcast.net/banez/240Z.html)

Less than 107,000 miles on car, less than 24,000 miles on the engine. The engine was pulled and rebuilt by a certified California Z shop in 1995, and the car was repainted while the engine was out.

What does not work on the car:

1) power antenna will not go up. jack ass car wash flunky tried to put it down manually after i forgot to put it down before running it through the wash. this is an easy, inexpensive fix.

2) windshield washer. the pump died and i pulled the system out of the car. the wipers work fine (as they were designed for the car which is not like modern cars). i don't drive the car in the rain so this is not an issue for me. the washer pump can be found in Z catalogs or on ebay relatively cheaply.

3) the driver's side door lock works but not well. i've replaced a lot of the components in this door and couldn't get thelinkage to work just right. i'm not a great mechanic, just good enough to fix things in a basic car like this without botching it.

That's all of the things that don't work.

What else is wrong with the car?

1) There are some small signs of rust in the form of paint bubbles on the front and rear fenders. These are common trouble spots. The other common trouble spots - battery tray, rear hatch around the glass are rust free. This is the worst of the car's problems.

2) The dash needs a cap. It's 34 years old and cracked pretty good. It's not horrible with foam showing or anything, but it's got 4 or 5 good sized cracks in it. Caps run around $50 to $75.

3) A few scratches (very few) and one or two small dings. very good for a 34 year old car.

4) the right side rear pillar emblem is loose (very easy fix). i had planned on rebadging the entire car but never got around to it. the existing badges are original and look, well, original.

5) the door panels on the inside each have one chrome colored strip. the chrome coloring was gone from both of them when i got the car, exposing a purplish plastic. this is a minor aesthetic issue, and i tried to cover it up with chrome tape cut to size, but it didn't work out real well.

That's about all that's wrong with the car.

What I have replaced/fixed: lots of things

1) All weatherstripping in both doors, left side twice because the first time the material was too thick and the door wouldn't close very well.

2) Most of the guts of the driver's side door including the glass.

3) stereo - got rid of the old cassette p.o.s. and put in a decent (not awesome) single cd player.

4) horn guts

5) new shift knob (original will be included)

6) i had a problem where some fuses kept blowing. i traced it to a bad voltage regulator. the original setup uses an external voltage regulator and an alternator w/o an internal regulator. i did a well known (among 240Z owners) mod that got rid of the external voltage regulator and alternator and put in a new 280Z internally regulated alternator. the car's been rock solid since. this was last summer.

7) both door handles

8) outside mirror

9) the exhaust system from the end of the exhaust manifold back. i put in 2 1/4" pipe with a turbo muffler. it sounded bad ass (fat, not ricey), but after about two years of driving a loud car i got tired of it and had a resonator put inline. now it's sounds great.

10) the starter/solenoid recently died so i replaced it with standard refurbs. starts fine now.

11) just put on new rotors and pads on the fronts two weeks ago.

12) new brake lines and suspension bushings when i bought the car.

there's probably more but i can't think of it now.

The car runs great, corners great, looks great. I drove it as a daily driver in good weather only for four and a half years. I get compliments/waves/thumbsups on nearly a daily basis, which was wierd to me at first but it was easy to get used to. Whoever buys the car will get the same no doubt. Since I put the new brakes on, I've taken it on two relatively long road trips (3+ hours each) and it was flawless.

So with that I'm asking $8500. As to be expected, the car is being sold as-is.

That may sound like a lot for an old basic car, but it's no where near what I have in it and it's not outside of the market range. If you look on E-bay you'll find 240Z for much less, and you'll also see they are shitty 240Z's. Unfortunately KBB and Edmunds don't go back to 1972 so they can't be used for blue book comparison.

By the way, as my profile says I'm in Delaware. If you need shipping services I can help arrange it but it's at your cost.

If you would like to contact me I'm at banez@comcast.net, and thanks for looking.
