A few months ago my radeon 9800 melted and died, i'm now using a crappy replacement.. It works ok for most things though, i guess. Is it time to upgrade?

You might want to upgrade to an agp 8x board. But don't do pci-e board, b/c then you have to get a new PSU as well.
