I got sick of looking for them in that massive thread in GD. Post em here to make them easier to find. These are stolen from everywhere, when new ones are added I will put them in the first post.

GET RID OF THE VOMIT TEXTURE!!

Landscape LOD replacement textures for Oblivion
Version 1.0

========================= ================

Didn't feel like bumping the old thread, since everyone is in this one now.
More useful mods, and a few updated mods. Copy pasted from the other thread:

12 slot inventory. Screenshots here. (http://www.tessource.net/files/file.php?id=1825). As you can see, the font is smaller and more items are visible. The map is much bigger as well, which comes in very handy. Check this TES forum thread for more info and download links. (http://www.elderscrolls.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=29508 1) Note that they combined this mod with the compass mod and made it modular, so you can choose to have no quest markers and no POI markers, or just quest markers.
I suggest combining this with the 24 item magic menu mod (I sorta can't find the link for that one again - it's somewhere inside the thread I linked) because it also comes with a smaller font that will get rid of the text glitch (some long item names get cut off).

Sneak icon and smaller crosshair (http://www.dawnmist.net/oblivion/oblivion_small_crosshair. zip) moves the sneak icon to the bottom right and makes the crosshair smaller so you can finally see what you're aiming at. Here's a screenie (http://dawnmist.net/oblivion/SmallCrossHairAndSneakEye .jpg) of it in action. It's also modular so you can get either the sneak icon, the smaller crosshair or both.

Save manager (http://www.mattmarcin.com/?p=18). Haven't used this one myself, but it looks very handy seeing as you can't rename your own savegames (what the hell).

Less fog underwater (http://s87678965.onlinehome.us/Oblivion/LessFogUnderwater.zip) does just that. Makes it easier to see down there. Not that there's much to see, but it comes in very handy for a couple of quests.

Level scaling mod. (http://www.elderscrolls.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=29789 2) I've just started using this one, so I still can't judge how well it works. Read the description in the link, but basically it gives the enemies a level scaling cap so after a point they won't keep getting stronger, making you feel totally underpowered, and guards are all static level instead of constantly being your level +10.

Smoother 3rd person camera. (http://www.elderscrolls.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=29545 9) Makes the 3rd person view a lot less "laggy" and more playable. I couldn't stand it before, now I play it almost exclusively. It basically works exactly like in morrowind now.

No loading message. (http://planetelderscrolls.gamesp y.com/View.php?view=OblivionMod s.Detail&id=21) Removes the "loading area..." message. From the same guy there's also the black loading screen (http://planetelderscrolls.gamesp y.com/View.php?view=OblivionMod s.Detail&id=60) mod which makes the loading screens black and gives you the option of removing the tips. It's handy for people who play in the dark, because once your eyes get used to dark dungeons, those bright loading screens hurt :(

Better Beast Tongue

300 classes UVW:
http://planetelderscrolls.gamesp y.com/View...s.Detail&id=130
This is the '300 Classes' Mod posted earlier but with 3 more classes (Agent, Archer, Assassin) each with 3-4 new skills each. The data from version 1.2 of the original mod was not touched and so this plugin is not compatible with that one. So far all I've done is copied the original format for skills.

Combat behavior mod
http://files.filefront.com/Combat_Behavior...;/fileinfo.html
changes combat to be more fun, stuff like chance to block etc!

ALCHEMY PERKS - MORE POTION EFFECTS
http://oblivion.danmil.us/oblivion/files/d...tions_Perks.rar
This mod reinstates the developers original idea to increase the possible number of simultaneous potion effects based on a character's Alchemical Mastery.

ALL HAIR AND EYES
http://www.tessource.net/files/file.php?id=1841
All hair and eyes available on char creation

Arcane Velocity
http://feinam.20megsfree.com/oblivion/arcanevelocity.zip
The objective of this mod is to make magic feel more powerful by increasing the projectile speeds of "on target" spells. This improves your accuracy against moving targets, but also applies to your enemies. This mod greatly improves the feeling of risk that comes with facing a caster in battle, as it takes care of the faulty aiming system (sidestepping one inch just as they cast, and they shoot into the wall).

Arena Modification (no level-scaling) v0.6
http://www.tessource.net/files/file.php?id=1923
This modification removes the level scaling and
everyone has one set level.

AXEBANES HUNTERS MOD
http://www.tessource.net/files/file.php?id=1889
This mod is for Oblivion players who love to hunt.

VA'S BETTER GOLD
http://www.tessource.net/files/file.php?id=1826
High resolution gold coins.

BETTER WATER
http://www.tessource.net/files/file.php?id=1830
This changes the Opacity of the water in the game and the amount of Fog underwater.

Better Vampires
http://gamingtown.net/attachments/oblivion...ip?d=114352348 5
you start out with full stats, but sun hurts and some stats are tweaked down a little, so your a strong vampire but your not god.you get every vamp spell and ive added an abillity to withstand the sun, because i had problems in a quest where i had to follow somone around in sunlight.to balance it, the ability removes your vampire strenghts and gives you many weeknesses plus you only get this abillity when you feed every 24h. every 24h you dont drink blood your strenghts get weaker and some spells get removed.ive changed the hunters sight abillity so now you can just turn it on and off, it didnt make sense to cast it over and over again with almost no mana costs involved.
ive removed the wrinkles so vampires dont look like grandma/grandpa anymore. vampires start out paler and get extremely pale if they dont feed. vampires still get a very thin face if they dont drink, i thought it would be fitting and dont know where to change it either.

Fixed beast tongue
http://members.iinet.net.au/~amills/Beast_Tongue.zip
The Wood Elf innate power 'Beast Tongue' lasts for 60 seconds by default. This mod simply changes the duration to 24 hours, allowing you to charm a companion you can have with you for a while.

Flak's complete names project
http://planetelderscrolls.gamesp y.com/View...s.Detail&id=123

Deadlier traps

Random Oblivion
http://www.tessource.net/files/file.php?id=1946
all NPCs and creatures are random levels, have random loot, weapons, and armor. And now most treasure is random, too.

Darker Dungeons
http://www.tessource.net/files/file.php?id=1938

Darker Nights
http://www.tessource.net/files/file.php?id=1970

To make blood stay longer on enemies/ground/your weapon do the following:
edit oblivion.ini with
fDecalLifetime=200.0000
iMaxDecalsPerFrame=40
bDecalsOnSkinnedGeometry= 1
Place all mod .esp files into your Games\Oblivion\Data directory and then select 'Data Files' from the Oblivion launcher to enable them.

Jarols NPC Equipment Mod
http://www.tessource.net/files/file.php?id=2130

Oblivion's original concept of NPC spawns was flawed. At higher levels, the only equipment you got to see were the best of the best. Glass and Daedric armor became common in order to provide a challenge. What most people wanted was something that reflected reality. NPCs that carried normal equipment (Iron and Steel / Fur and Leather) while having a low chance of using higherend equipment.

This mod changes the NPC equipment chances, making for only a 2~3% chance of NPCs weilding high end equipment. This is done while keeping the original level tables, because lowered chances of obtaining the latest and the greatest for your level is reduced signicantly.

LEVELED ITEM FIX
http://www.tessource.net/files/file.php?id=2062

1)lets merchants sell anything regardless of the players level
2)makes loot random in dungeons
3)makes loot random in houses (thieving is now worth it!)
4)changes the list of items used by bandits etc so they dont all suddenly get glass/deadric at level 20.

NO OBSOLETE LOOT AND ENEMIES
http://www.tessource.net/files/file.php?id=1952

Makes it so that none of the items or enemies in the levelled lists become obsolete. No matter your level you might encounter an imp while wandering the forests of Cyrodiil or have a bandit wearing leather armor attack you. This also somewhat alleviates the problem with everyone and their mother dropping high end stuff when you have reached a certain level. No matter your level Iron/Steel and Fur/Leather will be the most common materials.

NPC EQUIPMENT RARITY MOD
http://www.tessource.net/files/file.php?id=1964

This mod changes most of the item lists for armor and weapons that normal NPCs (not monsters or dremora) get their equipment from. Now, most bandits and marauders should use the lower levels of equipment, not all Daedric and Glass, no matter what your level is. Scaling hasn't been removed, or really changes, Ebony still doesn't show up until level 15, but now there is no point in which NPCs will be using only Ebony, or only Daedric. There will always be at least ~50% using Iron and Steel weapons and equivalent armor. Also, no this mod greatly increases the rarity of Daedric armor, Daedric weapons, and glass armor. Normal NPCs no longer spawn with it, it is only available in loot and powerful NPCs or monsters like Dremora.

RARE ITEMS
http://www.tessource.net/files/file.php?id=1968

Normal monsters monsters will have mostly up to silver/steel weapons. On some special occasions maybe even dwarven. Any higher than that and you need to go out hunting for some Minotaur Lords or something. Daedric/Ebony stuff is especially rare to find. The only creatures i left alone were the Dremora and most other Daedra. I tried to make high level drops somewhat random even on high level monsters, so you might still get a silver longsword instead of a glass one even if you are attacking some level30 creature.

Here's my compiled/stolen performance guide for lower end computers.

My rig:
2000+ AMD Athlon XP(1.7 ghz)
512 RAM(kingston, not top of the line)
Windows XP
Onboard soundcard
Geforce FX 5600 256MB(84.25 beta drivers)

When I first got oblivion, with every video setting all the way down, I got 1 FPS at the character creation screen. Pretty shitty, but after about 3 hours of forum browsing/tweaking I get 18~ outdoors and 40~ in dungeons, with the cost of worse looking graphics.

http://wufei.justintimemedia.com/Oblivion/oblivion1.JPG
Current in game settings are
800x600
Med. Textures
All fade options almost max
view distance max
Bloom lighting OFF
And mostly everything else off.
----------------------------------------------------------

INI Tweaks(change in your oblivion.ini in my documents):
bForce1XShaders=1
The FX cards are NOT able to run 2.0 shaders, end of discussion.

bUseWaterShader=0
If you're going to use 1x shaders, you HAVE to turn watershader to 0. Yes, your water turns purple (http://wufei.justintimemedia.com/Oblivion/oblivion4.JPG), but otherwise Oblivion will crash when you see water.

bUse Joystick=0
May boost performance. Also removes the problem Joystick owners have, where they cannot use their keyboard while a joystick is plugged in.

--------------------------------------------------------

Other tweaks:
CoolBits (http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=815) for Nvidia users.
http://wufei.justintimemedia.com/Oblivion/coolbits.JPG
Originally its set at 3. Set it to 0 for a BIG performance gain.

http://homepages.cae.wisc.edu/~jdkirch/Oblivion.rar
Apply this patch to the oblivion.exe, and it will help with a lot of the random crashes. This is exfinites patcher, Hats off to him.

http://games.build-a.com/oblivion/
^ in this directory is excors redone shader files. Huge performance boost with these. Get shaderpackage001.sdp, and place it in oblivion/data/shaders/.
BACKUP your old one first.

Also get treeshaders.zip, which make trees look like shit, but it increases FPS.
Drop it in the same shaders folder, and backup the old ones(if there even is any, winrar didn't ask me to overwrite.)

----------------------------------------------------------

A few more screenshots:
http://wufei.justintimemedia.com/Oblivion/oblivion2.JPG
http://wufei.justintimemedia.com/Oblivion/oblivion3.JPG
http://wufei.justintimemedia.com/Oblivion/oblivion5.JPG

And 11 was the lowest FPS i've hit thus far. Fuck horses.

Credit goes out to Joshwill80, excor, and exfinite of elderscrolls.com/forumwhores
and a few other places that I can't think of

PyroTeknik

Yeah, horses are an FPS killer for me.
Everything else is fine. Outdoors is generally 18-25 fps, but I've got settings maxed like a madman.

Indoors and cities are flawless, and most forested areas where you can't see huge vistas seem to do fine.
Here's some screens:
http://www.fwstudio.org/Junk/ob1.jpg

http://www.fwstudio.org/Junk/ob2.jpg

FPS is generally in the 20s outdoors, depending on the area. Some of the more forested areas it drops to around 18, and sometimes 15 if there's heavy combat but it remains playable and the trade off is worth it :)
Horses still kill it though... Fucking horses.

Let's say I had a brain cramp, and during one of my many ini tweaking sessions, I deleted my original oblivion.ini.

The oblivion_default.ini in the games install folder... if I copy that to the my documents/games/oblivion folder and rename it oblivion.ini ... would that accomplish the goal of restoring the original ini?

Or if I just deleted my VideoRender information in its section of oblivion.ini ... would it attempt to redetect and 'redo' the oblivion.ini ?

Reinstalling is really something I would prefer to avoid.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

PyroTeknik

Yeah, oblivion_default is what gets created the first time you run it, so it should revert back to default settings when you copy that one.

Thanks CommyBastard (he emailed me his backup oblivion.ini)

Some more tweak stuff, some from other thread, some just picked up here and there:
Optimising Oblivion (http://www.atomicmpc.com.au/article.asp?SCID=27&CIID=36222&p=1)

This is an interesting 'Bloom' tweak, which can make it more HDR like (not my thing, but some like it)
in the .ini, find the BlurShader section (not the ones that are BlurShaderHDRExterior, etc, it's after that.) In this section, look at the option that reads fAlphaAddExterior= *then a number here* This changes the density for the bloom, in exterior areas. You can now change this number to anything you desire, however note that I have mine set at 0.4000, and that makes it very vibrant, like in the screenshots. (you can Edit this to your hearts desire until you get the level of vibrance you want) Look down one line next, and you will see fAlphaAddInterior=*number here* This controls the density of bloom in interiors, and I tend to have it higher set then exterior as inside is more light intensive (mine is at 1.1000) Once again, you can edit this till you are settled.
To see his screenshots, he has links in his post in the thread http://www.elderscrolls.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=28254 2&st=40 ... it's the last post on the page.

Rev_Night
03-31-2006, 01:42 AM
HDR just kills the fps (i have a 7800gt!). Bloom and 2xaa FTW. The insides are 60-80+, but outside it drops to 20s. Add in ugly ass sprites, shitty not-so-long distance textures, and its like wtf? How can inside looks so great yet outside look so shitty?

PyroTeknik
03-31-2006, 07:27 AM
For the blood tweak, I would recommend not going much above 120 seconds. Blood decals are not removed when you exit an area, they're going to stick until they fade out.
Another tweak for it is changing the line fMinBloodDamage=1.000 to something lower. That will make enemies bleed more for less damage. I have it set at 0.5000, and with the decal time at 120 my sword and armor get covered in blood whenever I fight, and so do most enemies.
