Helado 03-10-2006, 03:44 AM Thoughts on talent specs?
I tried the 32/19 lolsmite spec and was kinda meh'd by it. PI doesn't really add enough dmg to give you an edge if you already have ZHC/ToEP and the healing is the same way. I'm going to try it out some more on test just grinding, but might settle on 26/25 or something like it. I didn't have any mage/warlock friends to throw PI on, so I couldn't really gauge it's usefullness there.
ragingbunny 03-10-2006, 03:46 AM are any of the new ablities/talent abilities any good? I just read complaints and shit on how the survivability hasnt changed one bit.

Only if they're noobs. I've noticed it's actually harder to gank priests on PTR. Even ones wearing devout. Part of it may be the lag making my stuns happen after I'm feared, but I don't have nearly that hard a time killing them on live.
Big Dick Dudley 03-10-2006, 04:06 AM my problem on TR is that i don't have any gui's or keybindings setup, so it takes me 3x as long to do anything.
I was also really interested in the 31/20 smite build, but the PI was kinda bleh to me. the 26/25 SG build had alot more stable dps. Still can't decide on which build I should swing.
Helado 03-10-2006, 04:21 AM The only real changes they've made to survivability is the new martrydom, the new pw:s, and the new inner fire. Inner fire has more armor but only lasts for 20 hits. Which isn't a big deal if you remember to recast it. Cast is like 300 mana. PW:S doesn't seem like a big deal, but it scales a little bit now. It inherently gets 10% from dmg/healing and another 15% from talents. If you're a dps class on a priest, it's probably the one you'll notice the most. It doesn't seem much, but figuring it's instant and every 15 seconds, it's a pretty big deal. They changed martrydom so that when you have the focused casting effect you have an added 20% chance to resist all interrupts (earth shock, cs, pummel, etc). I can't say I've seen it proc alot. Probably because most of the rogues on test don't have very high crit rate and they don't exactly try to stun lock you. Usually just trying to cheese dps you down.
There's other talents but they're pretty meh. Blessed Recovery returns health as a HoT, but it recasts on crit, so it'll keep wiping the old one out and it doesn't come quick enough to warrant talent points. There's a -10% from spell damage, but 10% isn't that much when you can be putting those points into more healing.
I think most people were hoping for an escape ability or a way to counter stunlock/silence lock. One well timed pummel/CS/kick and you're still fucked. Your fear is still 30s with everyone breaking it in < 3 seconds. Priests are still going to be #1 target and still squishy. The thing for me is that being disc/holy you have a little more damage output to take down people. Ya I can just spam dots and sit around absorbing damage from a couple dps classes, but once I lose my dps in my party I can't do any damage. I was able to come out of a couple 2v1's on top or in some cases do better than I can now. For example 2x hunters would be rape almost any time. But I was able to usually take 1 down and leave the other at < half before viper sting would GG me. Was able to take down multiple warlocks (gg holy damage), but full epic'd locks will still be tough as nails. Was able to down a rogue/lock duo (cheesed the rogue with mindcontrol off the cliff after I downed the lock). MS is still GG, but PI + trinket + trinket gives you 60 seconds of extra healing that as long as you're not interrupted you can probably live through the warrior.
How long you live as a healer in BG's is still going to depend on your group mostly.

Ya I installed alt cast and that was about it. I hate not being able to see numerical values for my health/mana and the default tooltip is so useless.
edit: The thing with the SG build is that it seems that smite would get alot more out of crit. So the 5%dmg/crit (+25 dmg smite) seems it would be debatably worth it over an extra +100dmg/heal (+70 dmg to smite, +85 to holy fire, +43 to mind blast assuming 400 spirit).

Wow what a waste of gear
Helado 03-10-2006, 07:09 AM Well it's not unlikely. Unless one of our mages/locks changes their mind. I should be able to nab the claw, shoulders, and the hat if I'm lucky. Our last mindflayer went to a pally and our casters have priority meaning nobody else wanted it. Last claw was DE'd.
JohnnyX 03-10-2006, 11:36 AM Everytime a class gets a review, people post screenshots of two or three crits in a row and posting it and everyone is like OMG WOWO INSANE DPS.
Never trust anything other than a combat log or some sort of combat stats which gives you number of casts/hits.
Power infusion is asstastic, it's like innervate in that it's much better used on another class outside the caster. Sure you can get 1800 extra healing or something like that if you cast gheals over and over with power infusion on, or I suppose more if you just spam renews onto people, but the ability is really a mages wet dream in PvP. ToEP + PI + AP is gonna be just as good if not better than the whole ToEP + ZHC + AP was... one shot city :{
Shadow is still best for PvE grinding, though offensive holy is a little more viable. PI and Lightwells are both kind of lame for 31pt'ers IMO.
I am kind of wierd in that I like to see big heals when I am healing, so I'm going a lot of holy when I get my priest to 60 (3 more gross lvls :{ )
Vampire 03-10-2006, 01:29 PM I played around with 32/19 disc/holy a lot, it's fun. It's a very viable support role. PI isn't bad, it's not spectacular, but it's a handy ability.
Testing survivability on PTR is pretty much impossible. Most of the people are wearing tier 0 with epic scale weapons/trinkets/etc. You have people with 2900 health hitting for 2900 damage, it's stupid.
Helado 03-11-2006, 07:22 PM PI + mage = :o

Me and a mage friend wanted to see how powerful it can be. He's no longer sad about double trinket.
