Greywolf 01-29-2006, 11:03 PM Is it possible to make the maps larger without manually resculpting them in the editor(because if u just increase the area, it stretches the textures as well)
Is it possible that with these larger maps that servers could run them?
Is it possible that people actually host the maps, and is there anyway that if people dont have the map that the server could upload at a decent speed?
If the 1st one is possible, id be willing to make larger maps to make it more tribesish, however if 2 and 3 arent possible then there really isnt any use :\
dr_boom 01-29-2006, 11:14 PM Not possible without totally recreating the map unfortunately.

any way that we could i dunno, "record" the map and then import its info to a part of the map?
CarpeIppon 01-30-2006, 09:20 AM Are you talking about T:V? Because that is a horrible idea.
Greywolf 01-30-2006, 12:42 PM yea t:V and why is it a horrible idea? It would be more tribes ish if you cant see the enemy base standing ontop of yours
CarpeIppon 01-30-2006, 02:32 PM Balance. T:V is very different from T1. Large maps are almost always horrible for game play because it leaves tons of room for grapple whores and rovers to escape. The reason why Emerald is a popular map is because there is little room for cappers and rovers to run in. It is thus balanced. Far more than say, tropics. Recently played in a BEML pickup in Frontline, a huge hilly map and it degenerated into a flag standoff for all but the last 2 minutes. Big maps /= good maps.
gOOse 01-30-2006, 02:48 PM I totally agree with you Greywolf. Dont listen to the people that like playing in a little box where no one has anywhere to go. ITS JUST FUCKING STUPID.
Thinking like that led us to the game that is TV , yehy tony hawk with spinfusors. I spent alot of time on one map for TV , The better looking MP-Rights , or the fogged up crappy computer version MP-Rightfully ours. Take a look at it and let me know if its something you like. Ill find a link if its still hosted anywhere. Its as big as I could make it for TV. Ill come back and edit this post with links and pics.
gOOse....
http://sourceforge.net/project/screenshots.php?group_id= 121987&ssid=5410 that image is how the look ended up. Other shots on that page are at various stages of devolpment. Trying to get the textures to look good, which is not easy.
This link has lots of unfinished work on it. And some preveiw movies of our Alpha release for GTW mod for TV. the working mod is there and other maps that testing was happening with before we cancelled (well before VUG cancelled) production on it. MP-Rights CTF is a great download. The non CTF one is for GTW. The worlds away map is in some of the preveiw movies and was a great accomplishment in layer fog for TV. Check it out.

NoFiX 01-30-2006, 02:55 PM Maps alone aren't going to make this piece of shit Unreal mod any more Tribes-like than your mommas fat terrain-like pussy.
gOOse 01-30-2006, 02:57 PM I agree with that Nofix but I tried to help the game the best I could.

thats true, however if it is used with a mod that eliminates the grappler......new game entirely

What tribes universe did you come from? I cant speak of T1, but in T2 the bigs maps were best. It gave players options. It made you think, defend, deploy, etc. Small maps are fun for action; flying and shooting, but not everyone wants to do that all the time.
TV failed because of shitty overall management. But, larger maps, more deployables, and if unreal would have let the modders mod, we might still be playing it. Its physics werent real bad, there just wasnt enough variety and complexity. As a T2 vet, i like the big maps.
My point, Big maps would work with TV, "IF" the other screw ups would have been fixed. That is a big "IF".

Well said.

He said specifically for T:V. And speaking about the base gameplay he's probably right. Learn to read.
derm king 02-04-2006, 09:23 PM Learn to read.
i know what he said. I said i was talking about big maps in TV. why dont YOU learn to read.
calm down. Did you even read what i posted. Here i will quote some of it for youTV failed because of shitty overall management. How many times did i say "TV". I was just comparing my experience in T2 big maps with what it would be like in TV. GET A LIFE.
Are different opinions ok with you?
From my years of Tribes, i know a lot of players who prefer big maps. That doesnt mean everyone will like them. But i guess, your opinion is the only one that matters. And to think, at one time i had a lot of respect for you, hero.
Flamers like you is why i quit posting here. So, bye. you can rule over your little world, hero.
MonkeyHero 02-05-2006, 11:34 AM You might notice I said "base gameplay", which is the same thing he was talking about. Don't get all bent out of shape because you tried to flame someone with your "what tribes universe" comment and I called you on it.
KnightMare 02-05-2006, 12:00 PM big maps in t2 blow.
There were already large scale maps created for T:V. Everyone that played them said, these maps suck, lets go play Emerald. It's over. Get over it.
Look towards the future.
gOOse 02-05-2006, 02:10 PM That is only when little minds enter big maps. Little minds work better in little maps. Low player counts + Little minds = Small maps are better.
High player counts + Faster teamplay and movement = This little map sucks and is way to small.
Im over it.
gOOse....
gOOse 02-05-2006, 02:13 PM When you were five years old you thought the 7-11 was far, and you were the king of that five house territory. Now we know that there is one on every coner.
gOOse..

What i said was a flame? news to me. Called me on what? goose is right. little minds.
"What tribes universe are you from?" hmm, that sounds so offensive.
you know, the "learn to read" was a flame. so, can you be more of a hypocrite?
Back on point. Big maps are fun, in the right circumstance and so are small maps. TV has to many problems. Big or small maps, TV will still suck.
MonkeyHero 02-06-2006, 07:35 PM stuff
 I'm not going to waste time if you've actually convinced yourself that you weren't trying to flame him.
I remember playing MP-Dash which came out not too long after T:V retail was released. It was larger, and the terrain style was more in-line with the previous 2 games. It looked like a great map, and probably would have been in T1 or T2c, but for T:V it just wasn't fun.
I'll keep playing T1 and T2classic because the big (and small) maps are actually fun there.
