The Pumpkin King 01-29-2006, 08:55 PM What if you had millions of dollars and could afford to design your own tribes game with everything in it you could possibly want.
What would you put in it? What would you leave out?
Are there any great ideas you thought were left out in T1 that could have made the game better?
Were there any features that could have added to the game that you would have liked to have seen?
Are there any ideas that you think would have made the game just way more fun?
Please list any and all ideas you have for your dream tribes game.
This includes gameplay as well as server join menu options, game menus in general, demo replay setups, shoutcasting, and literally anything you can come up with having anything to do with the game.
This is just for fun. So please post away.

this is tribes talk... :o
WeRe-|WoLf|- 01-29-2006, 11:18 PM It depends upon how many "millions of dollars" you're talking about. With only a few million I wouldn't even consider investing in a game for a fickle bunch of fanboys that can't agree on anything.
I'd be more likely to invest in a LAN center biz, and use it to cultivate and sponsor a gaming team to have fun competing in a game that someone else produced.
If you were talking about more like $100 million and up, I'm sure I'd enjoy funding a development team with a few million that I could for the most part deduct anyway.
Having said that, I'm flexible about a lot of things that have come and gone throughout the franchise and it's many mods, so I'd entertain a lot of creative possibilities that might evolve from the production process but with a few simple criteria to begin with:
1) Gameplay and movement would be fast and graceful, just as our original Tribes, but with no "instant death" melee bs such as shocklance and mine disk in the original mode.
2) Graphics would preferably not have the cartoonish look of T.V., yet even that's not a dealbreaker.
3) Game support! In order to deter cheating, any supported mods would be hosted on authorized servers. A form of player stats would be integral with any player account to include "roe" penalties that would over time preclude a player from joining others on advanced servers until they regained a required level.
There would unfortunately need to be scripting limitations, but an experienced group of Tribers would be engaged to oversee the creation of a VERY BROAD variety of customizations, to include hud and other display options, loadout and inventory features, v-chat editing, waypoints, and basically any conceivably desired feature that the development team deems falls short of an exploit.
Users would also be able to submit ideas or suggestions for new authorized mods or changes to existing official mods. A number of partner sites, conceivably such as Tribalwar, for instance, would have a polling process for submission of a limited rate of such ideas to be passed on to the developer, who would ultimately choose what ideas and changes to officially implement and support.
4) Development tools that work as promised, including but not limited to map creation.
Pachacutec 01-29-2006, 11:31 PM Wind/environmental effects that can act on a player, push/reflect gun, better machine gun options, (basically assault rifles available instead of just a cheesy chaingun), ghost mode, so you players can attach to you and just echo your routes so they know what it should feel like during routes.
just off the top of my head..
Kingky 01-29-2006, 11:40 PM what if you could please tribes players
Arsic 01-29-2006, 11:47 PM Do whatever you want with it, but keep the core T1-like. I'd have a secondary development made as a mod to include all the other experimental junk. So basically when the game is being developed, there would be 2 kind of modes: one for Tribes + better graphics, and one to include all the "improvments" that the hardcore T1 players wouldn't like. That way there won't be as much useless crap being derived too far away from the T1 base.
?B-MAN 01-30-2006, 03:25 AM Similiar to what Nio said, It should include two gametypes out of box based on the core game which should match the scale, movement and skiing (jump skiing) physics of something between T1 and T2 classic. Not TV ice skating without carving and decent jumping. And get rid of the "cheese" thats sometimes associated with Tribes graphics.
A classic Tribes gametype out of box (with only the base Tribes 1 style weapons enabled and some smaller ctf maps. Good server for Tourney, voting, voice etc)
The full base game with all elements enabled (vehicles, new weapons etc).
Basically the same core game, just two preset gametypes out of box ready to go. Vast options to remove any weapons, vehicles etc server side. Also I know some hate the shocklance or mine discing, but by default I would leave mine discing enabled in the classic gametype and disabled for the fullbase game. Shocklance disabled in the classic game by default and enabled in the full game. Always the option to enable or disable features on the server. Some of you may not like mine discing or the shocklance, but many others love it. All weapons and vehicles from T1 and T2 should be included in the full game whether some of you like them or not. Reach the fullest market potential, instead of removing things to please a niche group. There are many types of Tribes fans, and not all of them only love base T1 style man on man. Mainly that the dev team whoever it be remember that the mulitplayer aspect of Tribes is very important to its fanbase, moreso in many ways than the SP or even the storyline. I also like Parchutecs idea about ghost mode on a player. Cool concept for an observer mode.
gOOse 01-30-2006, 05:11 AM Mine would be persistant tribes world. Stats and so forth. With servers that can be captured. With totally mobil tribes bringing their spawn points and equipment with them. Now they are set up in YOUR SERVER and you need your whole tribe to show up and take it back. Its a crazy Idea. But I just cringe when people say t1 with better graffixx. Break the mold mygod. Why bother makeing anything if its already been done, what a waste of time. GTW was about as perfect as tribes will ever get. Those of you who played GTW know it. Those who didnt never will. flags get old. The fun part was chasing, running from, staying alive, and haveing a purpose to live.
CarpeIppon 01-30-2006, 09:12 AM An internal and hidden ranking system. By internal I mean all stat tracking is done by the client, is hidden from the player, and is sent to the master server when the connection is made. The purpose being to try to match players of equal skill just by arranging the server list according to skill. Stick the noobs with the noobs and the vets with the vets without forcing anything.
Because playing with idiots who just sit around and osnipe is so fucking annoying.
Plasmatic 01-30-2006, 09:26 AM 3) Game support! In order to deter cheating, any supported mods would be hosted on authorized servers.

Awful, terrible ideas.

So post your own. "He who is silent is understood to consent."
1) i didn't mind the 'instant death' SL & mine/disk both took some skill and with the speed of T1 (T2:classic) it's sort of necessary.
2) i love the look of T:V :p
3)I agree.. make the game fun and fair. if a script/exploit/mod whatever is good and makes the game more fun for everyone (ala skiing) the developers can update the game to include it.

my own ideas
I'd like to see skiing done away with (OMG, i know :p) but instead replaces with another (or maybe in conjuction with) another "speed" device. There by every map wouldnt have to have hills to be really playable ( one thing i hated about Unreal Tourneyment or Quake (or how Tribes was originally) was that Walking up to a flag and trying to walk away with it is ludicous)
I'd also love to see more to do (instead of T:V's minimal approach). Go beyond T2 with more weapons, more packs, more gadgets. (i'm still not a fan of vehicles ... i like the e-sport. man vs man)
More midfield action (chasing, flag passing) no touch returns (returning team needs to control flag for at least 5 seconds). Minimize, or elimate Turtles.
...and as said above, environment interaction .. whether it be wind affecting shots , gravity, whatever. But, also things like moving parts . rotating platforms (with flag). OR even AI that interfers.

I'd keep that idea for a mod or gametype. Your suggestion sounds like the speed pack from TV. I dont want to play walk and run to get the flag with a million frag weapons at my disposal. That is every other CTF FPS ala Quake, Unreal, etc. I'd want a classic gametype thats untouched ala T1 and T2 classic. The full game with all the goodies can offer new players all the Turrets for farming, vehicles, deployables etc. The better they get, the more prepped they are at playing classic. Man on man with all the speed and skiing that comes with it or they can stick with their tactical game, either way Tribes jump skiing should be an attribute of the physics in the game.
Whatif....
All I want is more players. I dont want a new game, I just want to see an active community play Tribes again, have regular matches and all that stuff.
Also some new maps wouldn't hurt.
