I've had no problems with Steam in the past, up until recently when it just stopped working god damnit!

When I try to open Steam I click on the shortcut and it pops up and comes up with a status bar like its updating, but then it says 'Steam is temporarily unavailable, please try again later' and its starting to piss me off.

I've added the reqired open ports to my router, reinstalled in serveral times, the steampowered.com support page is a POS because they don't even have the problem on there.

Help!

ok, here are the first things to do, make sure you have given the program permision to access the netowork in windows firewall, make sure any other firewall (check your router's port forwarding config as well) you have running lets the program access the network. make sure youve got the right connection type selected in the steam options. i dont deal alot with steam (it sucks, in my opinion) so this probobly wasnt much help....

Steam does not require any specific ports open on your router nor any NAT. The only time you would need to open ports and forward them with Steam is if you were hosting game servers. This isnt a problem with steam as an application however.

If you have a router turn windows firewall off completely, screw it - its shit.

Have you nuked (deleted) all the remains of steam after unintalling it then trying to reinstall it? (particualry the clientregistry.blob file in the root of Steam)

If it still doesnt work then I would suggest trying to get out on another internet connection - Possibly a friend?
