I just purchased a..

A8N-SLI Asus Motherboard (939)
AMD 3200+ 64 CPU (939)
Geforce 7800 GT PCI-e

Motherboard is a 24 pin power supply connection.

My Macron 400 Watt Power Supply is a 20 pin connection.

Will it work properly? I have heard it will work but I'm a little scared to try.

I do not think it will work. I wouldn't even try it. However if you have heard differently by a more trusted source, give it a try. ( Cross your fingers )

I have tested the 20 pin and it works. But my partitions are not appearing correctly and I had a blue screen of death from the windows XP install.

The mobo most likely requires all 24 pins to be active. There are adaptors to convert a 20 pin to 24 pin, but they are VERY dangerous. It would be better to go out and buy a 24pin PSU.

According to Anandtech, quality 20 pin PSU's have no problems powering 24 pin mobos with an adapter.

"Macron" doesn't strike me as being one of the more popular brands.

you won't fry your board or anything. The extra 4 pins are additional power for your video card. If you get an adapter (and you should they are only like $6) it actually just shares power from other rails.

I replaced a 24 pin psu with a 20 pin psu in a chassis and it works fine, no problems.

When downloading files and applications I'm getting corruption errors and non-valid 32 bit applications. I wonder if this is realted to me having 3-4 HDs running with the GF 7800GT?

Picked up a Antec 550 watt power supplies today.
