My weekend @ bellagio ...

Man, internet poker has come a long way. I went to bellagio last weekend expecting some very tough games ... I found exactly the opposite. Everybody (and I mean everybody) thinks they are Phil Ivy at that place. The tables are filled to the rim with LAG players (and I am not even talking about the games I found at bally's, easy money those) -- perfect for a TAG style. Here are some highlights ...

Pulled in a $600 pot on KK on the button ... full table of limpers, I make it 5xBB to go ... 2 callers all the way to river ... one turns over Ax (hit nothing), one a flush draw that he got on the turn.

Bought into a $230 satellite for the $1000+60 daily tournament. Half the people in the satellite had no clue they were in a tournmanet (they played it just like a money game, bascially got eaten up by the blinds) other half played very poorly -- won my seat easily.

I went pretty deep in the $1000 tourney ... started with 44, I got down to two tables left and got toasted in a set-over-set situation that I played poorly. Played with old man schulman, minneapolis jim meehan (drunk off his ass), some old guy named charlie who claimed to have written a bunch of books and constantly was giving me advice (he got busted out playing AK like shit), some punk I've seen on TV several times that nobody likes and a host of other "just missed the TV table" pros who think they are better than they are.

Overall, it was a blast ... bellagio is a great place, I can't wait to visit again. I felt like I could have played better in the big tourney, but hell it was a good learning experience for me.

It's pretty common knowledge that live is much, much looser than the internet. You still there? I'll be in Vegas tomorrow, yay!

Headin out to Vegas the second week of march (5-8 probably). Gonna try my hand at live poker for the first time. Any words of advice so I'm not the sucker? :)

Oh and what's going on that week in Vegas because it seems like hotel rates are through the roof for a midweek stay.

playing a few hours at low limit first would be my first bit of advice; getting yourself acclimated to playing live before you dive into no limit is a pretty good idea, and whether you like it or not, your hands are most likely going to shake the first few times you count out a raise in real life and the only way to stop it is to play a few times ;)

I wish ... I was only there for the holiday weekend. I'm a bit slow on the live versus internet thing, but now I realize that the best live players to get hooked up with are the ones that don't give a shit about the money. There were guys would would buy-in for $500, lose it in 20 minutes going all-in with nothing and then re-buy right back in laughing the whole time. :)
