Greywolf 01-11-2006, 09:44 AM Wat would happen in a game of TV if the players didnt have the grapple or the shield pack? Well, as see it, Cappers would have to set up routes, like in t1 and t2. If they screw it up, they cant just turnaround on a dime and give it a medicore shot from the other way. I can see defenders being able to kill the cappers more easily because of no grappler, and because of less standoffs. I can see the cappers not being able to go through 5 discs with the shild pack and fly away effortlessly. However the only real problem i do see is that if anyone still plays HOF they would lose the shield pack, making it harder for them, but i bet smeone would find a workaround.
What are peoples thoughts on making a minimod that just takes those 2 things out? Id like to see cappers need HO to cap again :(

KnightMare 01-11-2006, 09:52 AM the problem is maps arent really made for "classic" routes.Playing LoF in LT was very easy because of this IMO.It seems like the only reason they added the grappler was because of the map size limitation.
I didnt have much of a problem chasing a grappler/shield whore it was the stand offs that ruined everything.I always wanted a mod that removed the pod and weaken the turrets, which should make stand offs less gay.

Greywolf 01-11-2006, 10:37 AM Alot of maps can have classic runs, the cavern map can even have some runs, people just havent bothered to figure them out because they've had the grappler and hadnt needed to use their brain yet

Reduced grapples or an energy-based grapple
Greatly reduced damage reduction (i.e. 40% instead of 75%) of the shield pack (in exchange for longer duration and reduced cool-down)
An IFF range that isn't dependant on the sensor
Rovers can't spawn while moving, or they spawn in default and then have to access the rover to get their heavy/light armors.
Increased chain damage to pods and bombers.
Put those in, and the game will be great. A few other changes would make it fantastic. I.E. Increase the inherited velocity of the disks, increase the flag throw distance, increase disk jumps, make the health kits usable.

Grapple was the gheyest way to get rid of skiing. Thats why they didnt bother to implement some nice carving. And what is tribes without skiing, a joke, just like this game.

Play some LT. You can turn well enough when you don't have a crutch like the grapple.
Darksidesmoker 01-11-2006, 03:36 PM Cappers still set up routes in T:V. I think the only thing people have a problem with is when during flag standoffs the flag carrier swings around near his base with turrets, pods, tanks and defenders.
I think there was a mod that removed the grappler and shield pack, I'll look around for it. In my opinion compmod was the best attempt so far at fixing the balance issues. Hopefully vanilla will fix the issue with the grappler and the shield pack once and for all.
Greywolf 01-11-2006, 07:06 PM If you can find that mod, it would be great, grappler is stupid for tribes. I bet you take it out and there will automatically be 100% improvement(shield pack also has to be fixed/taken out)
Calsa 01-11-2006, 09:57 PM Seeing as this is an Unreal based game your best bet is to write a series of mutators instead of a mod. Each mutator will alter one specific aspect of the game, for example a no shield mutator, a remove grapler mutator. The reason for this is you will have trouble finding more than 4 people that feel Vengeance needs the exact same modifications. With mutators, server admins can add and remove specific aspects to there liking.

Orestes 01-12-2006, 05:05 PM Rapher is working on a vanilla mod at the moment. A couple of us have played a very early version of it that reduced the grapples to 5, dropped the passive shield effect, and lowered the active shield effect. Personally, I thought just those little changes made the game a bit better. I dont know what his entire plan is, though, and when it'll be done.
KillerONE 01-12-2006, 06:14 PM Even 5 is enough to save a capper from a messed route, and easily redirect/get away from someone without. And that's the whole balance problem with the grapple, if you don't have it, you're not going to catch someone who does.
Grapple needs to be eliminated.
Shar*Chi 01-12-2006, 07:01 PM I personally prefer the faster aerobatic gameplay that TV has brought to the series (and yes i've played tribes for many years). I'd like to see these modifications:
* Grapples: standard in every loadout (does not take up weapon slot), limit of 5 ammo (collectable from corpses), shootable grapples / breakable lines.
* Flag passing: proper throws, tr2 style passes, deflections, bounces etc.
* Pods: Overheat mechanism on missile firing to prevent spam.
* Shocklance properties for the shock-knife - especially against vehicles.
* Slightly less armour on the tank.
* Fix the non-reg MA bugs.
* Fix the loading screen so redirected folks actually know that they are downloading new maps.
* Fix flag stuck in roof bug.
* Fix numerous rover bugs, like being unable to access inv after spawn.
Yes I wanna make grappling more prominent to non-light loadouts, but more vulnerable at the same time, so it needs to be used sparingly. Does anyone talking about nerfing shield pack actually play in clan wars? Sounds like you've never faced effectively organised defense to make such a request.
thereal Shaolinmonk 01-12-2006, 07:33 PM some of those tv maps would be sweet for t2. It would have been nice if more of the tv sp was available for mp. oh yeah and it didn't lag to piss with more than 10 people in one server.
