Worth upgrading an old Audigy2 to a new X-Fi soundcard?

Title says it all...

I just bought some new 5.1 speakers on sale (logitech x-530s) and I was thinking of upgrading my soundcard. I've heard good things about the new X-Fi cards, but is it really worth upgrading over an old Audigy2?

Will I see any performance increase with games (mostly bf2)? What about sound quality?

I read some online reviews, but they were pretty vague on whether an upgrade was worth it.

Definetly not...

No upgrade in sound quality, and very little upgrade in performance(if you buy the one with the RAM on it). Just because it's new does not mean it is better.

You will never see any noticeable improvement in performance or quality

Pretty damn ture. Nvidia started the end of sound cards with Soundstorm, and now they are getting better and better.

The sound on some of the new boards is just as good as a sound card these days.

it depends on the user. I listen to a lot of MP3s so i live my X-FI. when i play bf 2 i still sit there and think "what the fuck was that sound" totally forgetting about the headphones on my head.

Yes offboard sound is still needed. Off board sound processing takes the load off of your CPU.

What I was thinking.

Yes, becuase that extra 2 FPS gained from extra CPU cycles really helps...

Saving cylces was real big back in the quake days, but now sound processing takes no effort to accomplish relative to today's speeds
