First Impressions:

My Brother has been playing for a long time Currently playing on Staghelm with a 52 Hunter. So I bought the game the day after xmas for 29 bucks.

I started a Human Rogue, he's pretty cool so far, My bro gave me 5 gold so its been a bit easier able to purchase the top armor my level allows whenever i'm in town, and I've been able to buy all the rogue training whenever I level up.

Few Items of note then a few questions:

1) There are absolutely no priests on this server in the low levels. Its mostly rogues, warriors, paladins, mages, hunters
2) With a rogue what sort of ranged weapon should I use? Throwing weapons is a natural skill and I got the weap trainer at the castle to train me in crossbows, but would prefer gun training, does it matter, what would work best?
3) At level 14 I'm having some trouble finding groups.
4) Where is the auction house? I know my bro uses it, He's on a ski trip so I haven't been able to ask him. Will I be able to buy shoulders/helm/Trinkets there? I'd like to jazz him up a little bit in looks and points.

1) so what
2) it doesnt matter, ranged weaps aren't for fighting, they are for pulling, and throw works fine
3) then dont find groups. you can solo in wow. i waited until 24 before my first group.
4) ironforge

I'm on Staghelm:
Graecus, 60 Rogue
Larsaya, 40 Hunter

Ditto on what Triple said. I soloed just about every level of my rogue, grouped when I had a few quests at an instance or absolutely when necessary.

You don't get trinkets until much later, so don't worry about those. And don't buy too much. Staghelm AH is really shady lately, just work for your items and you'll be fine.

the key to fast money is to get auctioneer and auction anything that drops

i had enough money for my first mount at lvl 26

Thanks,

- I've been solo'ing pretty much everything so far, except Hogger and a bit in the new zone.

- I'm not complaining about there being no clerics, I just was wondering why. Seems like [LFG] Need Healer scrolls across the screen every two minutes.

- Why is the AH shady lately? I'll check it out I've just not been getting a lot of drops that I can use (mail, mace, 2h, etc)

There are actually quite a lot of us on staghelm, I'm sure your brother already told you but make sure to take up some professions, you can make a great deal more money that way. And be careful of what you buy on the AH, thing is shady like Josh said.

Shady how? from what I thought I saw, you put up an item, with a ebay like (starting price, duration and buy it now).

Anyways, Cool, Char Name is Skibbi, no Guild yet.

And yes, I've got Herbz and Alchemy right now (something like 75/25)

Yah I am herb/alch maxed. What I have been reading and what I am doing with my alts is picking up two gathering professions, so I can bring in alot of money at the earlier stages of the game. Then when you hit about 40 or so, unlearn a gathering prof and pick up a tradeskill and that way you will have enough money to level that to where it is useful.

The AH in general isn't shady, but Staghelm AH alliance is weird, you have to make sure you aren't getting ripped off, alot of people trying to charge outrageous prices for things that shouldn't be that expensive. Selling of course is fine because there are some people that pay those outrageous prices :)

Drop alchemy for now and take skinning as its most beneficial to have the two gathering skills earlier in the game. Find a friend who can make you potions with the herbs you collect if you don't want to sell them. Make sure you have all 14 slot bags and upgrade to 16 when money allows.

Vendor anything grey, sell anything white or better on the AH if you don't plan to use it yourself. Don't equip bind on equip random world drops unless they are end game quality items. The gold you can sell them for is worth much more then the benefit you will get in the 10 or so levels you will have it equipped.

As a rogue you should be able to tear through mobs and quests fairly easily on your own. Thottbot is a good place to look for item upgrades and find out where you should go to get items that have good attributes as well as reasonable drop rates.

Played a couple hours last night, almost made it to Lvl 16, I had bought a couple pieces of armor from the AH and was ripping through everything. I duo'ed with a same level warrior and I was out tanking him bad (probably a bad player as well). He died 5 times, I died once (got a 18 merloc add after taking on a couple level 16 merloc hunters).

Mounts don't come until 40 right?

as for the shady aspect, yes I saw that, I was looking at Earthroot (was thinking about PL'ing my alchemy), some prices for bundles of 20 were good, some were bad, and some were not bundles they tried to pass off as bundles.

I'll look at auctioneer, but I guess they look for underpriced items buy them up and put they up at better prices?

don't worry about pl'ing your tradeskills til later in the game, you'll waste a ton of time and gold on something you really don't need. I made the mistake of taking enchanting as I leveled my priest and wasted a TON of time running trash instances for loot to DE and buying cheap shit off the AH to DE that could've been better spent grinding or as was suggested - farming herbs/skinning/mining.

GL with the game man, hope you enjoy it as much as I have.

You'd think 2 is common sense, but you've no idea how many rogues carry around blue bows/crossbows.

I prefer thrown because, as Triple said, it's for pulling and I don't want to waste an extra slot in my packs for arrows/bullets.

First off you should use your money to buy better weapons. Rogues are reliant on their weapons, especially when you are sword/mace specced, so you should put more of your money in that.

Mounts come at 40 and it's 90g, 18g for riding lessons and 72g for the actual mount (three flavors to choose from). You're racial starting region has the stables to buy it. The 90g is assuming you are Honored and get the 10% discount. Though if you PvP a lot and make Sargeant you get an extra 10% discount on top of that so you may want to think about that as you reach lvl 40.

Alchemy is a fuck-easy profession to lvl. I leveled two Artisan Alchemists at present and I have never had a problem leveling it. In fact I capped it out at 150 and 225 and had to wait for my experience level to catch up. Also there's more than a few recipes for potions that will sell well on AH, most of which you can find via vendors.

- Swiftness Potions
- Defense Elixirs (regular and greater)
- Shadow Oil
- Healing and Mana potions (regular and up)

You can make some decent coin making those in 5-packs and AHing them.

And reselling is a bad idea. Because a lot of people do it and it wastes too much time waiting and hawking to try and get your money back in the first place.

Some of the tricks...

1. Price Gouging.

Someone will find a desireable item like a specific epic or something and AH it without a buyout. Then they use a padded alt to bid against anyone who bids on it, driving the price up and giving them more profit.

2. Resellers.

Usually these people live at the AH, buying blues and purples and finding ways to make more money than they put into it. Hawking it, re-AHing it, whatever.

There was talk of people "hiding" expensive item prices to trick people into bidding way too much for something, but I think that was fixed some patches back.

Last I checked, throwing weapons don't have stats.

Yeah, cause rogues don't need the stats on those blue bows/crossbows

1) That's because those are more DPS oriented classes.
2) Use a Bow or a Gun (or a crossbow but there aren't many of those until higher levels). Throwing weapons can't have stats on them. Bows and guns can.
3) Just solo.
4) Ironforge. Take the tram there from Stormwind. Next patch there will be one in all of the capital cities.

Don't buy shit off the vendors, it's all overpriced crap.
