Okay, I'm gonna run some of the memtest stuff and mess with things once I get moved back in to my dorm room next Saturday. Thanks for some more of the helpful hints. I would do it now but if you can believe it, I have about 100 empty floppy disks there and none here. Whatev.

EDIT: And are you sure about plugging both power cords in? I could swear that I only do that if I'm running in SLI... but then again I'm not 100% sure. And i'm not running in SLI.

I'm pretty sure whatever the manual says is right.

Okay, late response to this thing... I try to deal with it but I'm always looking for a solution.

Some of you say that it could be the mobos fault, but like I said, this is my 2nd mobo. I ordered it off Newegg and have had it since August so any chance of returning it probably isn't going to happen, ever.

I have been checking temps pretty regularly though. Everything is running at good temperatures (26-40 degrees celsius) except the memory, which says it is at a whopping 127 for both sticks. Could this be the problem? Or is the memory temp just possibly being read wrong?

I still think it's the soundcard :p:

Either get new RAM or some heatspreaders.

does the ram actually FEEL that warm? put your hand in the area of the ram while it's supposedly running at that temperature (but don't touch it) and see....
127 C is ridiculously hot. i would think that it would've actually already fried.

Definitely doesn't feel anywhere near that warm. Feels like the other temps. Maybe it is a sound problem... I'll check that out. Once I stop being lazy :(

Unncessary bump...

Just updating this old problem though. Finally got my card shipped back to BFG, should be there by the morning, then they'll send a new one 3-5 business day shipping. So hopefuly I'll get it by the end of next week. If not I may cry, cause right now the comp that card was in is unusable cause the gfx card is gone. So I'm on an old non-gaming comp.

But yeah, once I get the card back hopefuly my problems will be solved :)

The final straw to make my call BFG today was when my comp shut off, and I looked down, and saw the GPU fan wasn't even on. Hot to the touch too. Dunno how I missed it earlier - well, I kind of do. Comp was out of the way and hard to get to before so I couldn't quickly get down and look at it like I could here. Yay for fixing problems.

... and the wait for the new card continues :)

Question though: Can't find where they sell my particular card anymore, the BFG Geforce 6800 GT OC. Think they'll send me a refurbished one that someone else sent back and they fixed? That's what I assume. But I'm hoping they one-up my card and just send me an Ultra. Cause that'd be cool, haha. Don't expect it to happen tho.

BFG was quite nice in customer support thouhg - led me through stuff intelligently, and actually acted like they knew their product. Once they found out the temps were running too high even when non-gaming, and that my PSU wasn't fluctuating oddly, it was straight to giving me RMA #s. Sweet.
